When my PSE5 Edit opens, about 9 pictures show under Art in the layer bin. I can slide the layers bar up to cover it.
How do I make it be "closed" when I open ithe Editor?
Thanks,
Beve

there should be a little triangle right next to the artwork and effects just click on it and it should close and stay closed until you open it again.
You can also go to the windows tab on the top and uncheck the artworks and effects and that will close it also.

Beve... before you close it. Look around in there. It has your drop shadows, bevels, ect. in layer styles. Also play around with your photo effects. Some really great stuff. :)

thanks, Tina! So Simple!! I was trying to do it with the "More" on the right.
I have looked through it. There is lots of fun there. I have been studying on the Organizer and think I have that fairly well down. Now I need baby steps to learn each tool and all the possibilities in Edit. (2 or 3 years?)
I am aware of all the tutorials available. I am a subscriber and studying "The Missing Manual" and "The Photoshop Elements 5 Book for Digital Photographers"
I have learned so much on this forum!

Welcome Beve... :)
When I got here I was completely lost. I certainly didn't understand the whole layers concept much less what the many tools did.
You might want to take the layers course and I would start heavy on the videos in the subscriber area. All of those things really helped get me going. It doesn't take very long for things to start falling into place. I also went through the galleries trying to get ideas.
Just ask if you get stuck. Everyone here was a beginner at some point and we make it as easy as we can. :D

Kimi,
I don't know how to do a private reply.
I have done the layers course and it was greatly helpful. The layers are so basic to the program and confusing at first. I really enjoyed the course and learned a lot quickly and easily.
I looked in the area about Challenges and homework thinking that might help me get going. The current ones seemed too advanced to me and I did not find the beginning ones. - - Baby Steps -- Are they still available? Where do I find them? Are they somewhat progressive from easy to more knowledgeable?
Thanks,
Beve

Here are the first 20 homework assignments I did. They are labeled beginner are advanced. If you look at the images you may say... I can't do that. But just start off reading the directions and following what it says. It will work. :D
I started the assignments as a way to learn after the layers course. You can get in there and play around with your images. There is no right or wrong way. If you like it then it is perfect. ;)
You can go back and post an image in any of them. They never end, they just kind of fade away. Hope to see you in class soon.

Edit: I went back and looked at the list. If I had to label some as beginner. I would say try...
