Hi Kim
I'm not quite sure I understand what you ar looking for.
If you want to apply a layer style to text, then you must simplify the text layer. It can then be treated as a regular layer, but you can not edit the text after simplifying it.(other than deleting the layer and starting over)
Hope this is what you are after.:)

Sorry...I have a picture of pool water that I'd like to use to create either a layer style or a text effect and then make it show up in my Special Effects palette to apply to whatever I'd like. Is that possible?...k

Hi Kim
I'm not sure.. sorry.
It sounds like you may need the full Photoshop to do this.
There may be a workaorund as saving the photo, dropping it into the backgrounds folder, and having it show up there.
I am having major brain disfunction today and can't remember what to save is as or where it goes...sorry.:o
Hopefully someone else can fill in the ever increasing gaps in my memory.:)

Gary's right - you would need full Photoshop to actually create a new layer style or Text Effect (they are actions). Not quite sure what effect you want to achieve but what you could do is turn your image into a pattern and use the pattern to fill text. That might achieve the look you are aiming for and because patterns can be saved it would be reusable on anything you want.

Thanks. I actually just got CS3 but it's totally intimidating me and I can't figure out what I'm doing in there so I keep drifting back to PSE5 for stuff that I need done quickly.
I'll give it a go and try the pattern route. Thanks!...k

Hi ...
To creat a Layer Style in CS3 you just click the "Add a Layer Style"icon at the bottom of the layers palette ... the layer Styles box will come up so you can create the style there and then click on New Style to save it :)
