View Full Version : Fliter problem in PSE5 - ptlens

I have several filters installed in PSE5 that work properly (virtual photography, Neat Image, Smart Curves, etc). I recently got excited when I discovered ptlens and installed the trial - the stand alone program works fine but the plugin never shows up in my list of available filters. I have talked with the developer about this and he worked through it with me and couldn;t help - his attitude seems to be "oh well, too bad".

Has anyone else had trouble installing filters? Are there tricks to getting suborn ones working or at least a clue to why they're not working?

Has anyone else had problems specifically with ptlens?

Thanks - Martin

No problem for me with the Ptlens Plugin in PSE4 or PSE5...

Martin, I had no problem at all.
Unlike some actions or add-ons that we have to install ourselves (put into specific folders), I have no idea what PTLens is doing because it comes with an EXE installer. All I can say is, it worked fine.

No problem here either in all versions. Check that the file is there:

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 5.0\Plug-Ins\Filters\PTLens.8BF

If it is then you should see it at the bottom of Filter list (you'll see it as ePaperPress)

I finally got it going as a plugin - I've included how I did it and what may have caused the problem for your interest.

First I tried installing the plugin on a different XP machine and that worked fine.

The only thing I can think that I did differently on the machine that didn't work is the first time I tried to install it I did not "extract all files" - instead I used the native windows file explorer and launched the install from inside the zip. I don't know if that could have screwed up the install but it is the only thing I can think of. After that no matter how many times I uninstalled, repaired or installed, the plugin just wouldn't work. I tried removing all traces from the registry and rebooting after each step (uninstall, regedit, install) but it made no difference.

PSE is installed at: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 5.0\
The plugin is at: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 5.0\Plug-Ins\Filters\PTLens.8BF
The plugin file name is PTLens.8BF

Finally I went looking through Elements preferences available in the editor (not the organizer) - File > Preferences > Plug-Ins & Scratch Disks. There I set the Additional Plug'Ins Folder to C:\Program Files\ePaperPress\PTLens and the plugin started working. Don't ask me why but at least it's now working.

Glad you've got it working. I've had problems running things from inside the zip although I can usually copy things OK. I now always extract first. I didn't have to tell it about an additional plug-in folder but it apparently does know about where it is because that's where the lens data file and the lens shift action are stored. Normally I think installation does all that automatically.
