View Full Version : Unable to Locate or Use Loaded Brushes

I have three questions. I recently loaded and and successfully used a custom brush (Nancy's Clouds. ABR) file in a tutorial on the "Techniques" page ("A Moment in Tme").

When I went to work on this project on the following day, I was unable to find the brush! My first question is where on the brush list do saved brushes go? There are about ten different lists (default, special effects, assorted etc.)...do we have to search all ten?

Does the brush have to be re-loaded everytime PE5 is closed and restarted?

I reloaded the brush and found it in the window (when I opened the brush tool), but when I select it I now get the message "Could not complete your request because of a program failure".

What is going on:confused:

Hi

Brushes that you "load" are a one shot deal. You will need to load them again next time.
I'm not sure why you can't find yours or why you get the error.

There are a couple of things you can do to keep your brushes always accessible.
You can just drag the unzipped file into your brushes folder and they will always show up as a brush option.
c/program files/adobe/photoshop elements 5/presets/brushes (im doing this from memory so it may differ slightly :))

Or use the preset manager and load and save the brushes there.
I don't use that method very often but I think if you load a brush. it is added to the curent brush set. You then need to resave the curent set to have the new brushes saved for future use.
Sorry only one coffee so far and my brain is starting to wake up. ;)

I figured it out...and I reread your message...it is exactly as you said! I Took a slightly different approach and saved the new brushes in a new brush folder on my desktop, and then reload as needed. I don't know what I would do without "The Techniques" lessons and Forums (and you folks). This has got to be the greatest thing going!

Glad you got is sorted out.:)

I wonder if the program was looking for the set in the last location it thought they were, and you had inadvertantly moved them somewhere else??? Just a guess.
