My husband will be having surgery today as step one in treating his cancer. He may be in the hospital as long as a week, depending upon the surgery approach they have to use once they're able to actually see the area. I'm confident we will both adjust to the changes he may face, but my heart just breaks for him.
Please keep him in your prayers today and through the weekend as he begins to recover and adjust to things.
Thanks.

Thank you all for the prayers and support. My husband thanks you too. He's very humbled by the thought of the many people who have kept him in prayer.
Surgery was long (and I'm not good at waiting!) but it went well. His recovery is going well too. It's just a slow process. His diet has consisted of ice. And more ice. So he's dreaming of chocolate shakes, he says! Apparently it takes a while for the insides to 'wake up' and he can't eat until they are making some noise to tell the doctor he's on the mend! He joked yesterday that he would appreciate it if I would photoshop his cup of ice into some ice cream!
We should get a pathology report soon. We are hoping for a report that shows no lymph nodes are involved.
The poor man deserves a break at this point! He has me at his bedside day and night, nagging...er, encouraging...him to walk, sit up, eat his yummy ice!! I am home long enough to shower, send a couple of email updates and get the mail (PSE newsletter arrived. YIPPEE!) But we both wanted to be certain I stopped in here to thank you all, again, for the prayers.

Lorri, I too just saw this thread. Your husband is most definately in my prayers that the surgery was a success. Just remember to take care of yourself as well. Everyone here is so great of a support system and I know how your DH feels with all the prayers of such a group.
