Made the background paper by making a pattern from my original scrapbook page. You would be amazed at how many cool papers you can make from the strangest selections.

Gulls were following the cruise ship when we left port and I just happened to be eating french fries on the balcony. I first starting throwing the fries in the air for them to catch, but then decided to lure them to the railing.

I like the pictures especially. Great photography. What kind of camera do you use?

I have an Olympus Camedia C-50
5 mp 3x optical zoom

It will be 6 years old in December. Practically a dinosaur

All my photos are taken on the "auto" setting - still haven't learned how to be a more "hands on" photographer - but I'm trying to learn now that I'm getting expert advice on this forum

The only reason I would consider replacing this camera is because it saves to card rather slowly and I need image stabilization because my hands shake.

Otherwise, I really like it.

I tell people if money is the most important parameter when choosing a camera, you can't go wrong with a camera that has "only" 5 mp and 3x optical zoom. You really don't need any more than that for a good, practical camera.

Cute page Janice, but I have to disagree about the 3x optical. :)

My first digital camera was a 5mp with 5x optical zoom. When it got dropped last Oct. I switched to a 5mp/3x and hated the lack of zoom. Just got a 7mp 12x before we went on the cruise and I was LOVING the zoom. Even if I did end up shooting the whole trip in Auto. (Discovered the manual I brought along ot read on the plane, was just the quick start guide - not the owners manual which is only available via PDF download.) Once you try something with a tad more zoom than 3x you will have a hard time going back. ;)

I agree with 3x not being enough - but I was merely saying - if money is your primary consideration - 3x is a pretty good value/cost trade-off.

Another factor with large amounts of zoom is both distortion and having to stay even more steady - however, with image stabilization - that's becoming a moot point.

And yea, I'm looking forward to the time when I have much more optical zoom. That will be the "focus" (pardon my pun) of my next camera purchase.

Even a 5x or 6x zoom is a big improvement over a 3x and IS is a wonderful thing for those of us that are a little shaky. :)
