We've had too much rain in too short a time. Sunday the basement flooded with over 8 inches of water. Spent all yesterday ripping out carpeting and padding and salvaging what furniture we could. The water softener and water heater are working again. The furnace is questionable, as is the clothes dryer. I've surely lost my old upright player piano, which breaks my heart for the memories of refinishing it with my Dad shortly before he passed away. But......things could be worse. We survived, some weren't as lucky. There have been 6 deaths and 10 people still unaccounted for. It's been awful.

What a horrible experience! I'm so sorry for you and others who have suffered from this flooding. Glad, though, that you are safe and getting things back to normal. Take care...

How terrible you must feel in some respects, but blessed that nobody was hurt in your family.

George:
Funny you should mention insurance....well, not haha funny....
We don't have insurance. We HAD flood insurance when we still had a morgage, but dropped it when it was paid off. But, interestingly enough......flood insurance does NOT cover things in the basement, it only goes into affect when water reaches the first floor. Incredible, huh?
We'll be fine though........a bit of work and we'll be fine.

Hi Mary,
I was sorry to hear about your flooding, but glad to know that it was only things that were damaged. We live on the water on the East Coast of Florida, so we have a great respect for the forces of nature.
Keep your chin up,
Bob

Mary, that is simply awful! I've been reading about it all in the paper. So sad you have lost so much. I hope the rains stop and you can salvage more. So sad for the ones who lost their lives.

So sorry to hear that. The flooding is unbelieveable everywhere up north of us! I just wish we could have shared some of that rain in southern Illinois. We are so dry we are restricted on water usage. I sure hope things dry out for you. Keep your chin up.

Sorry you were hit with all that rain and flooding, Mary. We've finally gotten some rain in the past two weeks after being super dry all summer. I see all the flooding on TV and feel so badly for all of you who have homes affected.

Mary, I'm so sorry about the floods. We had a drought, then hard rains for about 2 wks and our basement and roof leaked, first time in 20 yrs. Now we're back in a drought with tempertures in the 100s everyday. Crazy weather. Hope things get better for you:(

Oh, Mary, I feel for you. We are getting rain rain rain down here in IL as well. I had water in my basement last weekend - but not nearly so deep as you.
Thankful you and yours are safe ... keep the faith. Stuff DOES dry!

Mary- Hope you get dried out and back to normal soon. How did the train tracks fare that carry me through your town, and is Zesto's still there?

Oh, Mary, I'm so sorry for all your losses. I'm in Fort Dodge, Iowa and we're flooded, as well. Three weeks ago we could have walked across the river. Now the river is way out of its banks and they've opened the gates on the big dam to try and alleviate pressure Luckily, our sump pump runs every 30 seconds. We're okay as long as we don't lose electricity. I'll add you and yours to my prayer list. Hang in there!
