I was looking in another section of the forum and Mike H had posted a site full of plugins. It is www.mehdiplugins.com. It suggests putting the plugins in a Plugins sub-folder or in filters. Does anyone have any experience doing this and what way did you do it?

Most plug-ins....just scroll to plug-ins>filters and dump them in, restart Elements.

I also got a .tif that is skin tones. Where am I supposed to put that one? I'm guessing in swatches?

Brian ..

If it is a tif then its just another image and you keep it in a folder somewhere then open it and sample the skintones with your colour picker. It doesn't install in Elements ...

If you want a swatch version then try this link:

tp://www.retouchpro.com/resources/fileinfo.php?id=8

The download contains haircolour.jpg, skintones.jpg then a PSPpals zip file and a PSswatches zip file.

Once unzipped the PSswatches zip file has both Bruces Flesh Tones.aco and Bruces Hair.aco files in it .... they go in the swatches folder. The others items in the download you can just trash :)

Thanks for all the info you guys. I was looking at Grant's Challenge again. If I was able to go any where for a holiday, it would be a holiday in your brains. What an adventure that would be. Wendy & Jodi, you guys are soooo creative. When ever Grant's Challenges are posted, I have to hold onto my chin so my mouth doesn't fall open like always. Amazing work...

Thanks Brian, the challenge has been going on for quite a while now...one a week for the last 137...do the math. I admit I haven't put much efffort into it over the past year or better. I guess i lost some inspiration somewhere along the way. If anyone finds my inspiration could you please e-mail it back to me. Thanks.

I tend to install my non core plugins in a separate folder in the Adobe folder.

It helps me remember which ones come with the program and which ones don't. That way I don't tell somebody to try a filter that they may not have. I haven't used Elements long enough to remember which ones are standard.

But thats just me being finicky

Morning all. I dropped two plugins into my plugins\filters folder. I then started up PE and opened up my filters and couldn't find them. Any idea's what I haven't done?

Brian this may sound bizarre but I had plug-ins in the main folder that were not recognized -- so I made a folder and put them in the created folder and there they are available for use.

Give it a try and see if it helps.

Morning Will. Thanks for replying. I put the plugins into a new folder named "New Plugins". It is located in my plugins folder. I opened up PE and looked in filters drop down, but found nothing. I wonder if I should be deleting a Cache file some where. How does PE know I put the files into and created a new foler? I know it's early to be asking all these DOS questions. Why was XP ever created?

Hi Brian ...

Elements should just "see" them when you restart.

Just a couple of very basic questions ...

Did the file come zipped and did you unzip them before putting them in the Plug ins folder
Have you closed down Elements and restarted it?

Brian

When you have a separate folder, you need to tell elements where that other folder is

Edit>preferences>Plugins & scratch disks

check the additional plugins box and "choose" the new location

Hi Brian -

Another couple things to look for is that you're finding the correct "plug-ins" folder, the one you want should be in Program Files>Adobe>photoshop elements. I've found many other plug-ins folders on my pc and fallen for the wrong one more than once.

Also, take a look inside the unzipped folder you downloaded ... sometimes there are two sets of plug-ins, one for mac and one for win. In that case just take the one you need and put that in the Program Files>Adobe>photoshop elements folder.

Good luck.

Brian,

I have installed several plug-ins from the mehdi site and installation should be easy.

Just download and extract the zip file - it should unzip as a 8BF file. For example the Kaleidescope plug-in extracts as:
kaleidoscope2-1.8BF.

Then copy this file to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 3.0\Plug-Ins. Don't put it in any sub folders. There is no need to delete cache files or do anything else.

Open PSE3 in Editor and you should find the plug-in by going to Filter on the top task bar. At the bottom of the menu you will see "Mehdi". select that and the mehdi plug-ins you have installed will appear on another menu.

Hello Wendy, Gary, & Bill. I had unzipped the plug-ins on my desktop. I had opened up Program Files\Adobe\Photo-shop Elements 3.0\Plug-ins. But now I did what Gary suggested. I had figured I had to let Elements know what I had done, but I didn't know how. Thanks Gary, Elements has been informed and we're all happy now. Thanks everyone.

Thanks Mike. Somehow, I don't think I'm done with this string as far as asking questions about installing plugins. Mike, I was impressed with the url you gave us to get these plugins. Now, I just have to find out what they all do. Thanks again.

I'm not sure why that worked  it should have picked up from the plugin directory. You only have to tell it when you are using a second directory.. I thought you had mentioned that earlier :) ..Oh well it's working for you. thats great.

Brian,

Great that it's working but I'm not sure why you've had to go through all of this though.

Anyway, I have tried or used many of the mehdi plug-ins, if you have any questions just post and I'd be happy to help you.

Wendy, aren't you suppose to be in bed ? ...snoozing ;)

I wish I was...boy at the week all went wrong...my clothes dryer decided to die and I'm forced to use plastic to get another...which i cannot pick up t'il the end of next week. My kids both brought home info about school picture day and now i got to come up with another 50 bucks to pay for them! ( I buy the cheapest package then scan and print extra if i need them)...at least gas prices are slowly dropping...

Thank you Jodi, Wendy, & Mike for all your url's to the free plugins & fonts. I've been very busy this morning downloading & installing. I changed my picture a bit using the Painter program from Jodi's url & a font from Wendy's url. Wow, so many plugins and now to try and schedule some time to learn all their features and to learn PE3 as well. I know in a while with playing with pictures, I will become a master. This is the only time in my life that I wish time would speed up a bit so I could learn it all sooner. That's just a big hint to Photoshop Elements for another Online Lessons. Come on you guys, we're all waiting...
