Canon has released a whole slew of surprises beyond the widely anticipated 40D. The biggest surprise is the 21.1 MP 1Ds Mark III for only US$7999. If your budget is somewhat less, how about a Canon Powershot G9 with RAW! With all the whining about lack of RAW in the G7, Canon has replaced it in a 12 MP, 6x optical zoom G9. No pricing at this time. You can read all that's available at www.dpreview.com (http://www.dpreview.com).

I'll definitely be adding the G9 to my arsenal. The 40D....we'll see. Thanks for the info!

Lee, thanks for the info. The 40D is a little out of my budget at $7999 but it sounds like an awesome camera.

Charlotte, the 40D is going to be $1299 US. The other camera - a 21 MP behemoth - is the $7999 one.

Don't you just love technology? It just won't sit still for anyone any more. A guy I worked with several years ago said he was going to purchase a PC "when they got cheaper". He kept saying that for 2 years!! But $7999 is a little out of my price range. Wonder what I'd get in trade for my Nikon D70s and lenses...

Chuck: Thanks. I saw the same number in Canon's press release, so that's good info.
For reference, the first G-series I bought was the 4 MB G2 in 2002. Its street price was $749....! Sure get a lot more for your camera dollar now, although I still think that camera was better constructed than most of the cameras on the market now - including the later G-series.
