Brenda -- the spider picture was taken in a back yard in San Antonio Tx -- I had a garden and didn't use chemicals so there were many opportunities to get creature shots. At the time I used a Minolta 35mm film camera -- however with digital I think I could have done more with that web.
Wendy -- it happens glad to be of help.

Oh -- so this week we have gray-scale image (or B&W). This should prove interesting -- looks like a job for some colorizations.

I have an idea too!! Wendy, I do believe either it's getting easier to think of them, or maybe it just the difference in the image. But for today, I promised myself I would work on my new Painter book that came in the mail yesterday.

Pauline,
You do tend to find that the more you do it the easier it becomes to think of ideas .... mind you mine will be a quick one this time as we are going away on Monday.

How do you think of Ideas I have nothing I keep drawing a blank when I think of it!
Pauline
September 16th, 2005, 11:01 AM
Well Thomas, you go to bed and try to get to sleep and instead you have that darn image of the challenge in your head, and start thinking about it. More time goes by and then BOING sometimes an idea just pops in. You hope that in the morning you don't forget the idea because you are too lazy to get out of bed and write it down. (should I start keeping pen and paper beside my bed I wonder?)
Sure Wendy.........a quick one. I'm sure it will be horrible. Does that mean you won't get 3 done. Somehow I doubt it.

I just want to remind people that Grant's Challenge is open to everyone ... your level of experience doesn't matter, it isn't a competition ... the idea of the Challenge is that you are just challenging yourself to do something.
Its a good way to learn new skills ... and don't worry people will not be critical of anything you do.
So do join in ... it is fun :)

I'm going away tomorrow so I thought that I had better do some comments today ... some very nice images this week:
Aaron .. Like the way you have used parts of the image to create a new one.
Andrew ... Good rainy day scene you have made. It looks good :)
Anne ... Oh that did make me smile I love the colours and the guitars just finish off a great image.
Ben ... What a good sketch, nice touch turning it into an Ice Cream van. How did you do the sketch?
Bob ... That has to be the best paint job I have seen. You can do a respray for me anytime ... great job and very well done :)
Byron ... How did you do that? ... it is such a good effect.
Cliff ... Well done on the colourization. Some nice touches in there with great attention to detail ... I do like the weeds growing on the pavement :) :)
Chris ... Very nice idea using a sketch part painted ... its good effect. How did you do it? ... and clever one in No 2. I wish I had thought of that :)
Dave ... and another good colourization ... the red really suits it :)
Gerald ... It makes a nice painting. Framed and ready to hang. Nice work :)
Jodi ... wow just stunning. Amazing effects and colours ... and so beautifully done :)
Malcolm ... Oh nice idea. It would make an excellent advertising poster !!
Melissa ... Now that is a cool new setting for Romeo and Juliet's balcony scene. Clever idea!! ... and I like the interesting effects you have put into image No 2 ...especially the brick effect.
Rita ... Oh that is good. How did you do the bus and how did you do that great background?
Tab .. Now that does look like the sort of bus I would like to climb aboard .. like the buildings too.
Tom ... Wow you did get a lot into both your images. They look really great .. how did you do the effects?
Ward ... Now that did make me smile. Neat idea and great building blocks :)

Well - I sat this one out -- couldn't really dream up much of an idea of what to do -- I think that since it is B&W I kinda lost it for ideas.
I'd thought about colorization -- but that was as far as I got --
There are some great entries and I enjoyed looking at what people thought up for this one.

Have to admit that I did have problems .. I started off just by colouring but then expanded the image to out both on it ... Oh it was a devil to piece those bits together

Jodi once again, I'm left speachless. How you can turn an old school bus into that creation is beyond me. I really need to find that creative part of my brain!!
Wendy..........good thing you are gone for a week. I'm mad at you!! What no CANADIAN bus???!!!
G. OReilly
September 18th, 2005, 09:01 PM
Pauline did I miss the bus? just goes to show that we canadians can't follow directions EH! lol  I am new to this forum so must do some research before I jump into anything
Pauline
September 18th, 2005, 09:05 PM
Well I'm doing my own Canadian bus!!! Hope you don't mind that I am copying your idea Wendy, but I just could not let this one pass!! Cool trick though and I've never done mapping before.
G OReilly, just jump right in. It's lots of fun and we all learn stuff, and even though I'm stealling Wendy's idea I know she won't mind. She's on holidays for a week, so she won't know.

Well I just shipped off 3 versions of the bus to Grant. All the same type but just different backgrounds. I'm done with school buses!! Time to move on. It was fun though. Wendy thanks for the great idea!!

I like your scene with the children, that was one idea that came into my head, because when I lived in america the children i looked after got picked up in yellow school buses, But I couldn't do it.
You have done a great job :)
Pauline
September 19th, 2005, 07:48 AM
Thanks Brenda. Unfortunately all the pictures like that that I have to work with are from an old cheap film camera and the quality really sucks.
I had a few pictures of the kids lined up at the bus stop too and was going to put them in front of the bus and go from colour to grey scale with them, but then I did the flag ones instead.
Laying in bed last night trying to get to sleep over my husband's snoring I realized I missed a step in the flag process! I never changed the blending mode from Normal. I really must pay more attention t the blending mode. It's something I never think about.

Hi pauline
So your husband keeps you awake aswell, I had to sleep on the couch last night it got that bad, only wish computer wasn't in the bedroom I could have been on it the 4 hours I was awake.
I'm getting a bit addicted to elements I get excited when I come on computer I feel sorry for my daughter sometimes I get so into it i forget about her, like now she is brushing her teeth for the 5th time today.

Brenda, I'm waiting until I get my new camera next week and then I think I'm going to film him with his snoring and e-mail it to him!! He can't be getting much sleep himself, because he keeps waking himself up!! I'm ready to have my own room but it's a few years before at least one of the kids moves out!!

Hey everyone,
Life has gotten quite hectic lately barely leaving me any time to do any challenges. I did manage to do one. but I so wanted to do at least three. But with school and my friend having a baby over the weekend that left no time for me and PSE. But I will try anyway. Even though I missed the deadline.
I still try and come over to the forum at least once a day

There is no deadline. If you have an image either for the present or past gallery it will go up if you submit it.
