I recently upgraded to Premiere 3.0 and PS Elements 5. I wanted to begin editing videos in premiere however, when even accessing the tuts provided, nothing shows up in the monitor. I can get the soundtracks just fine. Can someone please, please help me out?

When you say that you have upgraded to Photoshop Elements 5.0 and Premiere Elements 3.0, does that mean that you have had prior experience with these softwares? If so, the following questions may not be appropriate, but we will start here anyway.

Questions

Did you ever get the tutorial to display on Monitor in your present setup?

Did this problem start after you started working with the tutorial or from its opening before you did anything?

Also, is the Monitor Black while you hear the soundtrack?

Are you in Sceneline or Timeline view?

Is your Timeline indicator (CTI) over an area where there is video on Video Track 1?

In the Timeline view, is the video on Video Track 1 and the audio on Audio Track 1?

I upgraded from Bundle PSE3 & Premiere to Bundle PSE5 w/ Premiere 3.0.
I've dabbled little with Premiere so I although I have some basic experience its very rudamentary. Most of my experience is with PSE3.

Answers to questions...

Did you ever get the tutorial to display on Monitor in your present setup?
No

Did this problem start after you started working with the tutorial or from its opening before you did anything?

From opening I have not been able to view any files in the monitor included in Premiere 3 program, although audio is not a problem, here it loud and clear.

Also, is the Monitor Black while you hear the soundtrack?

Monitor is black when I try my mov file. However when I can click on the monitor a picture still picture of the mov file shows but as soon as I hit play button monitor goes black

With tut from Adobe, monitor will change varies colors from white, black, gray etc, sound comes in beautifully.

Are you in Sceneline or Timeline view?
Tried both options, results do not change

Is your Timeline indicator (CTI) over an area where there is video on Video Track 1?

Yes. I brought a mov file taken from my digital camera that was stored in PSE5 over to premiere, no video, so I tried the tutorial provided with program to see if video would render, still no video, tried reloading program and same results no video but audio is rendered.

In the Timeline view, is the video on Video Track 1 and the audio on Audio Track 1?

Yes.

Ps
I really appreciate the quick response to my questions, and your patience with me! Thanks!!

I am still thinking about this one.

What operating system do you have? Have you installed the Premiere Elements 3.0.2 Update from Adobe?

From your answers, you can see video actually residing in Video Track 1, but just black video in the monitor. I have Premiere Elements 2.0, and there are a variety of ways to bring in just the audio or just the video to the Timeline via Create Slideshow options. But, then you would not see the video on Video Track 1 at all if that were set to "just audio". Since I still have 2.0, I am not sure if there may be a special set in 3.0 to make the video on Video Track 1 invisible.

But, for now, while I thinking, first let us check out the operating system and the Premiere Elements 3.0.2 update.

Also, sooner or later you may want to try the "flushing the Preferences" route. This FAQ is under 2.0, but I am "almost" certain that it works for 3.0.

I am adding a few thoughts to ATR's suggestions

1- when you said you did not see the video from your .mov file, that made me wonder which version level of Quicktime you have installed?
I am not immediately certain of what is the minimum Quicktime for Prem Elem 3, but I do suggest that you post
- your Quicktime level
- you digital camera make and model for this video clip

2- However when you say you can not view the video for the files that came with PRE 3, that would make me wonder whether you have an obsolete driver for your video card?

3- Also, I am curious if you are running Windows XP or Windows Vista?

4- Since you can't play the files that came with Premiere Elements and this is a new install for Prem Elem 3, I think that you would be eligible for Adobe's complimentary installation support. I mention this now because today is Friday (last business day of the week), so you might want to call. Here is a link from which you can choose Tech Support contacts for your locale
