Hi there ...
... and welcome to the forum :)
I'm hoping that I know what the problem is ... try this:
Select the crop tool now look at the top of the screen. If there are any figures in the width and height boxes press clear (top right hand side)
Now use the crop tool and you will be able to adjust it .. use the crop tool and there should now be small handles on the crop box you have done. They look like small boxes .. click on any of them and you will be able to drag the crop box out or in, each side can be adjusted individually.
Hope this helps :)

Hi,
I don't use the Straighten & Crop tool to straighten images because I've found too many times that it can't detect the line it should be using. Instead it gets confused by another feature...
So... I just use the crop tool. As Wendy described, you can drag the crop tool to any size that you want. But you can also rotate the crop box. If you position the cursor on one of the corners of the crop box you will see a curved arrow. When this appears you can rotate the box.
The process I follow is to drag the crop box onto the image, then I rotate and resize the crop box so that one of the edges is parallel with the feature that should be (say) horizontal - let's say an horizon. Then I extend the crop box out to the edges of the image and then crop.
This way gives you control over which feature in the image is being used to straighten the image and how much of the picture is cropped.
