I'm going out fishing on Monday (would you believe me fishing!) with my brother and nephews for grouper. I'm going to be the one taking pictures. Was wondering what setting would be best out on the water. I mean, I know I can use "auto" but would like to use a manual setting. I usually use AV.

Hi Norma,
I would either use Av or P (program mode). In the bright Florida sun, use fill flash on any picture of people (or fish:)). Keep your exposure meter area to a relatively small area when taking people pictures. Spot works for me.
When you have the time, and are not pressed for "must have" pictures, take along a "model" (your significant other can be pressed into service) and practice outdoor portraiture. Post you shots and let others in this community help you to be the "second coming" of Margret Burke White:).
Cheers,
Bob

I haven't been deep sea fishing in a lot of years! I'm more a sailing, sit and drink my wine kind of person! But it should be fun. I'm the official picture taker anyway. I don't think I'm gonna fish...there's no way I'll ever pull in a 20-40 lb. grouper!

Hi Norma,
Sounds like fun!! Try avoiding taking the pics with the sun behind your subjects...it will create nasting backlit conditions...use your flash and bring down the flash compensation to -1. I usually use P, and a high number with the aperature and low iso settings... Have Fun!!!!

Norma, I'm sure you will go a great job. Just put down the bottle and glass before you take a picture. Wouldn't want to waste any wine.:D
Have fun.

LOL! That is good advice! Wouldn't want to waste anything as I'm being pulled over the side by a 40 pounder!

WEAR SUNSCREEN, and take a cover shirt
Hmmmmm - wonder why you passed on this particular advice?
BTW - how long did it take for you to be able to wear clothes again?

Ha! You won't be laughing when you see me in the news..."Women swept out to sea by large 80 lb grouper! Instead of her hauling him in, he hauled her in"!
Now I'm LOL thinking about it!
Hope someone gets a picture of me on this boat cause I won't believe I'm there! It's only 5 of us on a 36 footer. Gee, hope there's air conditioning (oh my god, did I just say that!!):D:D

I don't know that much about boats to know if that one has AC. The one Bill and I are going on, will.:D
Should have nice breezes and a sunny day.
Now, with my sunburn...lets see--3 days no clothes, then only went out at night w/o any sunshine. Didn't even make it to the mail box (the sun hurt).
took about another 8 days til I started peeling, although not too bad. Bill was a mess though, and he ended up with sun poisoning.

I had sun poisoning once a long time ago on, think with our first sailboat! It was awful! Poor Bill!
