Making a template for displaying photograhs

In Tutorials. the last part of step 7. I can't merge all of the "white shape" layers and call the merged layer "cut outs". I can make a simple template like in my gallery but I can't figure out how to merge these layers and finish the template. Is merge the same as flatten? That didn't work either. I'm in Elements 3. I guess I don't know how to merge layers! Thanks someone.

If I remember correctly in PSE3 you would click the second box (next to the eyeball) in the layers pallette for the layers you want to merge. That puts a little chain link in the box. Then Layer>Merge linked and the layers you've linked will be merged.

Alternately wait until tomorrow for Wendy who wrote the tutorial (and I suspect did it in PSE3)

I just looked in 3, it's almost exactly the same as PSE 5 as far as merge layer options are concerned.

I have not read the tutorial you are working on, but if the layers in question are in sequence, I would just get on top and start merging down - one layer at a time.

I'm usually careful with steps like this so I don't use keyboard shortcuts. I find it a bit more idiot-proof to pick my way thru the menu actions.

Thanks for the idea of one layer at a time. I am in no hurry but I do make senior moment mistakes (idiot mistakes) like "oops". By the way, that is the most dreaded word in the operating room. BillandCat

Hopefully that will have sorted out the Merge for you :)

... just another thing. In the next step it says Edit>Clear ... you need to do Edit>Delete instead :)

I wrote the tutorial in PSE2 and then Adobe changed the command :eek:
