Ater seeing all the wonderful watercolors that been the forum the past days,
I ordered Photoshop Photo Effects Cookbook by Tim Shelbourne. The book arrived yesterday and I spent the evening reading. Today I going to start playing with some of the recipes.

I love the way the book presents step-by-step instructions and lots of great tips. A plus is you can download the photos he has in the book for working the recipes of different effects.

John

It is a great book. Most of the effects are pretty transferable, and the ones that are different, make you think about workarounds...a great way to learn.

I don't have the book with me at work right now (yes, I really am working), but I think we're talking about the same book. Anyway, I've had difficulty trying to come up with a PE5 method for his sketch effect of the violin. Any suggestions?

It's addictive. These are great too:

Photoshop Blending Modes Cookbook
Photoshop Fine Art Effects Cookbook
Photoshop Filter Effects Encyclopedia

They are all by O'Reilly Digital Studio, like the Photo Effects Cookbook.

I could spend the rest of the year just in the Photo Effects Cookbook.

Wendy, I have Grant's tools so I will try that. When I finally get around to it, I may need to pm you for advice. Thanks for your reply.

Are these books like Scott Kelby's digital photoshop books? Or like the book on retouching by Matt (I think it was Matt). I'm always up for new books but I'm starting to get too many that I don't use. Just got Scott's and I really like it. Thanks Brenda

Funny - everytime I saw "cookbooks" mentioned - I thought you were talking about actual cooking - and I wondered why you were talking about cooking here :confused:

Hi Brenda ...

This one is a Photoshop book so its best if you can get in some bookshop to see it ... :)

Guess I didn't really pay attention to the CS2 part. I ordered it earlier this summer and finally got it out to work with it last night. Every technique I tried took me to a place that stopped me from going further. I'm using PSE5. Any suggestions?

That is what happened to me too. It has fantastic step by step instructions with photos, etc...but I typically got to a point that I couldn't do what they wanted in PSE5...I am not smart enough to come up with a workaround myself...but the very talented folks here have had suggestions for me. Scott's book on PSE5 is dynamite and I wouldn't pass that book up for anything!

Just my 2 cents.

Hi ...

I do have the book as do quite a few here ... si when you get stuck just post a message and we will try to find a workaround :)
