Hello everybody; :)

I have some new pictures on my gallery, they are the result of my new lens, a Canon f/2.8 100mm USM Macro, this is a whole new experience for me, I shot before with the Close-Up lens by Canon (500D) attached to my Sony H1, but this is completely different, now I understand the difference between Close-Up and real Macro shooting in a life size 1:1.

Please be a critic and tell me what do you think, I still need a lot of practice and patience, I was really frustrated with the first few shots (they are not included), I was not able to focus anything, but after some research and reading a few threads and suggestions in other forums I start to feel a little bit more confidence. Again, please tell me what you think and if you have experience with macro photography or with this lens tell me what I'm doing wrong.

I think the blue flower shots in your gallery are stunning, especially the soft focus side view. Here's some macro tips that may help-
Use a tripod on unmoving subjects to really nail the shot.
Depth of field is critical; decide how much of the flower you want sharp. Go for a little more sharpness when you shoot; you can always blur out areas later with PSE.
If your camera has a depth of field preview button, use it.
Get a right angle finder for your camera; makes objects near the ground much easier to shoot.
Experiment, experiment & experiment.

H.F.,

I had been considering getting a similar lens - now, seeing what you are doing with yours, I am really anxious to get one!

I like how you always shoot your subject to include portions that are out of focus, in addition to the target area... the depth it adds to the image is something I really enjoy.

The little insect on a couple of your images must be almost microscopic!!

Your pictures are wonderful, Hector! Your main image is so striking.

That's a nice lens, but your eye is what makes the difference. Your photos are always a treat to look at.

Hector, those are amazing closeups! Great job! I don't have a macro lens for my Canon but I am definitely going to start saving now!

Hector,

¡Sus fotos macro son muy hermosas! (Translation: Your macro photos are very beautiful!) Hope I got it right!

It looks like you are having a lot of fun with this type of shot. I especially love the pink rose (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/gallery/view_img.php?id=23773).

Your blue flower main image is so lovely! I love the lines of it. Just so graceful. I'd sure hang that one on my wall. Thanks for sharing.
