My friend called me this morning and told me that her dear Molly, her beautiful dog of 14 years, is very ill.
My friend asked me if any of the pictures that I took of Molly just last Saturday came out good, because it seems that I was the last one to take a picture of her precious Molly.
I am posting this because I would appreciate your honest opinions of this painted effected that I used on one of Molly's photos which I took. This is the first time I've done this, and I really want it to be perfect for my friend.
I am so sad for my friend right now. Luke is the only doggie I've ever had, and I can't even imagine what my friend is going through right now. (Molly's picture is in my gallery.)
Thank you,
Sela

Sela............
I was just about to start a thread on your image when I noticed this one. Your image moved me to tears.......even before I read your post. Molly so reminds me of my old grey faced William (my avatar) whom I lost 2 years ago. I know just what your friend is going through.
.............I think your interpretation of Molly is exquistely beautiful and I KNOW that this is something that your friend is always going to treasure and hold close to her heart.

Dear Wendy, JulieM, TinaB, Norma, John, Robyn & Hamish:
Thank you so much for your kind words. I was looking at the picture of Molly some more this morning, and I do believe that it does reflect Molly's essence and spirit. I guess I am a bit nervous, that I want the picture to be perfect. I am so glad I am able to do this for my friend.
Robyn, I am sorry that you lost your Willliam. Isn't it just amazing how much joy a dog or cat or any pet can bring into our lifes. I never understood it until I got our Luke.
I haven't heard about Molly's condition yet. It is still a bit early here, so I believe I will go print the picture for my friend and give her a call later to see what the situation is with Molly.
In the meantime, thank you all for the "okay" to go ahead and leave Molly's picture as is.

Sela,
I'm coming in a bit late on this one ... but, I think the "paint effect" is excellent for this. It really complements Molly's coloring and pattern.
Your friend should love it and will no doubt want a high resolution version to be printed and framed.

Thank you Anita & Rusty...
I am taking a little lunch break from work and decided to check out what's going on here.
Rusty, question: I would like to print out a photo of at least an 8 by 10. what size do you suggest...image size/resolution size. I am still confused about this stuff. The original photo was shot in the highest resolution/image setting on my Nikon D50. Thank you, Rusty.

Sela,
Conventional wisdom, many websites and many prior posts on this forum all say that a file size that produces 300ppi at 8"x10" will produce a good quality print. I have read on the internet, in a treatment of this subject that made sense to me, that "300" is not a magic number cast in stone. This guy says anything from around 250 to around 300 will yield excellent results.
I also use a D50 and I do not routinely have the camera on the highest setting; I'm usually on "Normal". That downloads a JPEG brought into PSE at 300ppi:
10.027" x 6.667" or 1000x3008 pixels. If you are on "Fine" rather than "Normal", you will lose less pixels upon in-camera compression and should have no trouble cropping to resize to 8x10 and keeping excellent resolution for printing.
Hopefully, somebody like Lee will see this thread and say this better than I can and, probably, correct misstatements made by me :)

Hi Sela...I saw your photo earlier today and didn't have time to comment. That is a beautiful dog and my heart just breaks for your friend. My little Punkin has had many health problems in her short little life but she has always pulled through. I saw something on another board once about whey dogs and cats don't live very long. I'll have to see if I can find it again. It was from a child's point of view on a pet's death and it was very touching.

Thank you Rusty, for all the info. Really, really appreciate it!
Sherrie & Peg....thank you. By the way, Sherrie, your doggies are so precious. I had seen their photos and admired them...so very cute.
Oh, and Peg, I could really go for some chocolate right now.
Tomorrow I will be printing the photo. I called today to find out Molly's condition, but no one was home. I am feeling anxious here waiting to hear what is going on with Molly.
Good night,

Molly passed away late last night. She was a wonderful dog and I will miss her....she and Luke were friends.
I haven't given the photo of Molly to my friend yet. I was very happy of how it came out. I need to get it matted and framed.
To all of you who commented that they liked the photo, thank you so much.
I will let you know how my friend reacted when she sees the photo. Thanks again, everyone.
