I was trying to fill a new file with gradient colour, and all I can get are shades of black. I put orange as the foreground colour. Then I was going to type in black.
Need help. Jean

Two things to check.
Is your new file in RGB mode?
Are you picking the forground to background gradiant? There is a black to white one that looks the same. I got stuck on that one for a while
Gary.
OOps make that three things..check the blending mode in the options bar.

Thanks Gary: I think the RGB mode was the problem. Worked well.
I used the gradient from the layers - how do I get a more even color blend without definite color lines

I'm not sure..sorry.
Mine is nice and smooth
I'll mess around a bit. I originally thought it may have something to do with the resolution but mine was at 72 ppi on my test.
What about your screen resolution and color settings (windows). I am at 1024 x 768, 32 bit colour. I am just guessing that this may be the prob.
Gary.

Usually if a gradient has lines it is the resolution and the physical that is causing the problem. When it has too few pixels to work with you tend to see lines :)
