Hi everyone. I finally finished and have posted my picture. I did a before & after so you can see what all was done. I want to thank all of you that was involved in assisting me to conquer this task. I don't want to give credit by names for fear I forget someone, and I don't want to do that. Please give me any criticism you think I need to know about because that will assist me in the future. Don't hold nothing back, I can take it, really.

Brian

Before I even see it, congratulations-you really stuck through it even when you were struggling

Hi Carol. Try it again. I don't know why it didn't work the first time. I had copied the address down and put it in my signature.

Okay Brian I won't hold anything back, but I sure hope you can take it.

Ready???

TERRIFIC JOB! Excellent. It turned out beautifully.
Now wasn't it worth all the pain? that sign really is in a bad place! I like the way you darkened the bottom too. Looks great. Give yourself a pat on the back for me.

As far as the picture goes you did a great job..The image is amazing ! Tho I would like to take that statue and bury it. I can't stand it. No offense to the fine crew of the Volunteer fire dept. No offense to the Artist who chose to portray how they had to beat their horses.

Looks great.. wonderful job.

One thing did catch my eye and only cuz I was checking the sign removal (great job on that as well) The 2 shadows on the sidewalk sort of distracted a bit. I really only noticed because I was looking to see if you removed the sign shadow.

This is the problem when you do a great job..all we get to do is nitpick

Gary.

You did it! I would never have known there was a sign there at all. I was lookiing for the shadow as well

The restoration job on the spokes is outstanding. Give your self a pat on the back from me :D

I might have considered getting rid of the yellow curb.

Good for you!

Oh yes we learned something about shadows due to a recent video -- they can definitely be a give-a-way.

At first I didn't see the before picture and I honestly couldn't work out what you had changed. Excellent work !!

Very constructive criticism. I was thinking of removing the shadows from the light standard, but thought they were there in the picture to start with. The yellow curb idea I agree with. I don't think the men were beating their horses, I think they were trying to control them at the fire. But I thank everyone for their comments and for giving me a smile as well as a bit of swelling in the head.

sorry but I could only rely on first impressions when viewing art. Indeed when you say they are just trying to control their horses that this idea can be understood as truth....problem is that my eye sees that right arm up in the air in a whipping motion...the whip does not have to be present for my mind to go into that direction...the fellow on the wagon. As I said...it is based on first impressions which is generally all I can rely on when viewing art. The feeling theat overcomes me is what moves me into liking something or not. I grew up around horses as my mother was a breeder and shower. If the artist had of had the conductor leaning back with both arms forward in a pulling back motion then I would feel that he was trying to control the horse. Regardless this really doesn't matter...my opinion is just an opinion that probably should have been left in the dark. I guess sometimes I lose willpower when it comes to keeping my mouth shut ;) You did a great job with it.

Thanks for seeing that way Jodi. Believe me, my wife and I are animal lovers as well. Heck, we don't even kill flies that are in the house. We catch them and let them go outside. We believe all animals and creatures have the right to live as much as we do. We're not crazy activists though, don't get me wrong. The city would have never allowed this statue in the city if it was depicting cruelty to animals of any kind. Maybe his arm just flew up with the horse rearing.

Morning Gary & Carol. I considered your opinions and I agree with them. I took your suggestions and changed the picture, and I like it better as well. Thank you so much for your input.

You are right, it looks even better!!

I never know when I make a suggestion if it will be better or not, it's just usually something I would try. I spend more time "trying" stuff, than doing what I started out doing

Brian,
Sweet! It could be a postcard. I really admire your dedication to this project. :) It's so nice to be able to have other eyes looking at your work-I know that when I've been looking at the same thing for hours I just stop seeing stuff, fresh eyes help me refocus :D

Much better Brian. I did notice the shadows, but I knew you already were frustrated and didn't mention it.

I know that I am pretty critical (especially of myself) so I try and remember that when others ask for help. I don't want people to think that I am nit picking.

That being said, here's another suggestion............
You know that sign on the wall behind the horse??? Well the horse would show up much better if you removed that and replaced it with brick.

I'm ducking now.
Also when you're all done, I think you should send the picture to Grant to use for his challenges!!
Then you could see all the different ways people manipulate it!

That's a great idea about Grant's Challenges Pauline. I didn't know what "sign" you were talking about at first, but now I do. It shall be removed and I agree with you. Carol is right, after spending so much time on this picture it was almost getting to be, "let's get finished already". I'm going to remove the sign tomorrow after work and re-post it. I know it's going to be better. Thanks Pauline.

  Glad you didn't throw something at me Brian. I think you will be very please when you are done and so you should be. You have done a terrific job.........so far. That little bit extra will make it outstanding. You never grumbled once about removing the shadows, so it must be getting easier......or just easier than replacing spokes! I look forward to seeing your completed piece.

Hey Thomas. I don't mind 15 year old eyes approving of my work. They usually see better than experienced eyes. Thanks for the compliments.

Thomas my son is 12 and very artistic. I get him to look at my work all the time. Some times he notices stuff that I don't. It's not your age that matters it's how you see things. As in how observant you are. And also how much you understand.

Say Wendy, since you're up & everything, do you know why my postings time is not right. It is currently 6:25am and according the the Mean Time, Alberta is supposed to be -6 hours. I've set that in my profile, yet my posting times are never right. Oh, on my last thread I said comments and I should have said compliments. Thanks Wendy.

Brian ...

You have to tell the site where you are in order to get the time right ...

Try this:

Click on "Profile" at the top of this page then scroll down to the bottom and you will find timezone. You just adjust your time according to the time difference between where you are and Greenwich Mean Time. If you are not sure of the setting then this site should help:

http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/

It is much easier for me as I live in the UK :)

OK, I think I have it. My times are right when I'm typing my threads and viewing them while logged in, it's when I log out that the times change. When I first read your last thread before logging in, it said that you posted your thread at 12:26pm or close to. After logging in, your posting was at 6:42am. So Wendy, here's the question; what time is it where you're at?

Brian

Hi Brian,

The site defaults to Greenwich Mean time ... but at the moment we are on Britush Summer time which is GMT + 1.

So the time here at the moment is now 2 pm :)

That just amazes me. So when us people in America are talking at 6:00pm our time, you're in bed or about to be. I know, welcome to earth, but it still amazing since the connection of computers and talking over the internet. That's so cool.

Thanks Wendy,

Brian
