Changing hair color

Need to know how to change black hair to red. I tried, using this little photoshop guide on graphics.com (I think that was it) But elements doesn't have the same stuff as the photoshop he was describing, and I must have did it wrong because my whole picture came out red instead of just the hair.

Can you type out the steps?

I suspect that you applied a Hue & Saturation adjustment to the whole layer. If so then you need to fill the mask of the layer with black and then paint over the hair in white. That will let the red show through on just the hair :)

I actually applied it to the hair only, I know this because the hair was the thing that changed when setting the saturation to 100. Ty & hi Btw
