Hi,
I am actually following Suzanne's tutorial to a key, even looking at other tutorials for making my brushes, i.e. signature, words, etc. However, when I go to edit and want to select "define brush from selection" it is grayed out!! The only option I have is "define pattern from selection". Not the option I want. What am I missing? I've tried it in both PSE and CS2 and getting the same results. Help me, please.....
Thank you!!

I'm going to guess, it is because it is too big.
Try an experiment of 500 pix by 500 pix. and see if it works then.
I know it can def. go bigger, but I would hate to give you a wrong "start" number. If that is it...I've done that many a time too.

Yeah!!! that was it.... Thank you so much for coming to the rescue. I actually experimented to see how big I could go. I got as far as 2000 pixels (6.67 x 1.74 inches) at 300ppi.. Hehee.. I am so happy.

Hi Denise ...

Thanks for this info - I don't think I would have realized the problem had it happened to me. Guess I'm always starting with a smaller selection for my brushes - although I do like to use them at maximum.
I like to start with an 8x8 and make the brush the maximum size and only brush once - and cover the entire page with the design to make my background paper.
Hint for those who like to make their own papers
Start with a 12x12 at 300
Color your background
Use the marquee to select a portion of your canvas
Select new layer
Choose your brush and make it as large as it will go
Brush once
Select another section
Selection another brush
Brush once
This makes a simple, subtle, yet very useful blocked background paper.
