Any recommendations as to what fonts work best in PSE5?

I guess the real question is why does my text look so "pixelly"? I've tried a number of different font types and they all seem to give me this jutty, pixelly look. Nothing like I get when I use the same font types in WORD. Thus I'm wondering if I need to adjust a set-up or preference.

Most fonts will work in 5 just fine. Check you image resolution. When text get full of pixels it is usually because your resolution is too low.

Okay....are you talking resolution of the PC scene or can the resolution of the photo in PSE be adjusted?

Go to Image, Resize, Image Size.

If you are going to print, your resolution should be 300. If you are just making something for the web 72 should work fine.

Try changing your resolution to 300 and let us know back if that solved your problem.:)
