I'm in the process of grinding away thru several hundred images taken for a weekend project. Nothing fancy, snapshot quality. Many were taken under exact same lighting conditions so enhancement becomes rote and automatic.

I was using Shadows/Highlights repeatedly. No problems; doing what I expected. Then I got this message:

http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/1XIafMSxc800WPEeL6G0BtqyOz1ehd1_thumb.jpg (http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1XIafMSxc800WPEeL6G0BtqyOz1ehd1)

(I was not using "Help", I guess that loads automatically)

I tried that enhancement again and got the same message. Tried to shutdown and restart and got this message:

http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/1FW37Fxvq7wGxS1lQG6iy1cNPitbO0_thumb.jpg (http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1FW37Fxvq7wGxS1lQG6iy1cNPitbO0)

(after I finally got elements shut down, I got the same message again on my desktop)

Elements restarted and everything seems to be working normally. I have two questions:

If it turned out to still be screwed up, is it possible to just reinstall a single application within elements? I would hate to have to reinstall elements from scratch as I assume I would lose all of the add-ons. This message suggests it's possible to just "do" one application.

That last message is the kind that always makes me scratch my head. It's complete gibberish to me. Should I care when I see something like this ??

Rusty, have you tried the reset preferences routine? That's my 'advice of the week' to people who are seeing strange behavior in Elements....

Hi Rusty,

Youhavent mentioned what system type and operating system you are running, but I a feeling it might be a slightly older one.

In the Bad Old Days, Windows got a little flaky when you did the same operation over and over and over . . . etc. The cure alway was to do a shutdown/restart and eerything was fine again.

If the pattern repeats or starts to occur with less up time my next thought would turn to memory - have you installed or replaced memory lately.

And if none of the above, sometimes they just cranky.

And to finish off your question, you can do a Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs and for Elements, select the button (dont know what it says), but it will give you a repair option that will bring the Adobe software back to fresh without touching a whole lot of your extras.

Thanks, Guys ... some interesting comments.

I don't think of my rig as "old", but heck, any 'puter bought last year is hopelessly obsolete ;) I'm running a PC with XT -- fully up to date with all the microsoft stuff. Still, it's old :)

John, you are probably right - it just got tired of doing the same thing over and over and over.

Interesting, when it finally did restart, it went into rebuilding art and effects without any action on my part. and, it worked just fine.

I didn't know about a repair option via Control Panel. Good information. I'll use that in the future if any more problems that don't correct them self.

Thanks again,

Rusty

Rusty,
I got the same type of message when shutting down my computer on occasion and mine has something to do with Norton Internet Security. Happens every once in a while. It really has not cause any problems.

My computer is still having 'issues' with direct opening of Killer Tips on the website. However, I found that if I right-click on the hot spot, I can save the movie file on my desktop. Then it opens fine with Quicktime. Case closed; that's good enough.
