In the EXTRA section of the final class on Using Layer Styles online class, it talks about adding a drop shadow to an object. He duplicates the layer, and then adds a drop shadow to the other side (so that eventually it's a full drop shadow on all sides). There is a check box in the dialog window that pops up when you click on the layer style of the layer and it's called "Global Light", that keeps the change from affecting both copies of the layers. This is in Elements 4. That box doesn't exist in Elements 5 -- so how do I keep the new drop shadow from changing the original one?

Thanks!

Besides the whole thread, be sure to check out the link provided by Kayser (I think it is response #3).

I had not seen that, but I found an answer. Thank you for posting that!

Junebug,

Global light was one of the casualties for PSE5. Here is Wendy's workaround written specifically for the last Layers lesson.....

Create your two layers and apply the inner shadow
Then go to the layers palette, click on the top layer and do Layer>Simplify Layer.
Next do Image>Rotate>Layer 180 degrees
Then change the blend mode of the top layer to multiply
