When printing a black/white photo, its prints with a brown tone. The only way to get true black/white is to change printer setting to monochrome. Then I can print black/white with the touch of color. I have changed the color photo to black/white by using grayscale and also desaturation andit doesn't make any difference. I am using Epson C84 printer. Thanks

I don't know the C84 in particular, but I have owned 3 different Epson
printers, each of which had an option in the 'Print Setup' parameters to
use 'Black Ink only'. I found that ticking this gave more realistic B/W
prints. Maybe you have this option on the C84?

It's a process that can be achieved with much better results if you use the Epson Heavyweight matte photo papers. Getting rid of color cast isn't always easy while using glossy papers and usually requires a good set of specific profiles and the papers to go with them. Here is a link that is well worth the read...

Just the beginning I'm afraid. It may even have a different tone in different light.
Welcome to the forum
Are the monitor and printers colour matched? How?
Is it a photo or a scan you are playing with?
Try this web site to get an idea of how to print B&W, although whole books have been printed on the subject, this shoud start you off.

Mike -Yes, the C84 has a black ink only option. But that will not allow me to print a B/W photo with a touch of color.

Jodi - I wondered if the paper might make a difference as I printed one, by mistake, on plain white stock paper and it appeared to be true black and white. Will try that paper and let you know. Thanks for the link. I am afraid it will take me quite some time to get familiar with the terms and be able to work with all the tools. I have used PhotoShop for mostly auto enhance, cropping, and other simple tasks.

Chris - Oh my, I had no idea this could get so involved. Thank you, too for the link. Alot to digest but hopefully with time I will be able to apply some of the information.

Don't know if/how the monitor and printer are color matched.

The photos I am working with are from a digital camera. But I didn't know it could make a difference working with a scanned photo.

Thanks to all for the help.
