Hi everyone, I have just upgraded to P.Elements5 and Premiere 3
I have problems within "The Organiser" frequently coming up with "Sorry PE5 has a encountered a problem and must close " :(
I have reinstalled 4 or 5 times, disabled antivirus and firewalls. Deleted the old catalog files. Run a fresh install and then even just added only a few files but still encountering problems.
Any suggestions Pleeze. I have Windows XPHome. AMD Processor, 4gig Ram
Have been happily editing movies / creating dvd's with no system problems.
Would appreciate any help from anyone
Regards Rick from NZ.

Unfortunately, I do not have any first hand information. But, you may want to browse through the chat in the following topic from the Photoshop User to User Forum at Adobe. Check out the solution found by "6 of 17".
Organizer Problems

"Photoshop Elements Organizer Problems" is a very popular topic, so I am sure there must be a huge amount of info in the threads here that you can access through Search. Look especially for the responses from BarbO. Hopefully, she will see this post and try to resolve the issue with you.
Keep in mind, one person's solution does not work for all.

You didn't by any chance upgrade to PSE 5.0.2 did you? There's a problem with the Organizer freezing under Vista (but who knows, it may also happen with XP, just not documented yet) that a solution is provided for here (http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb400848&sliceId=2).
Otherwise, your title of the thread asks if PSE5 will run on a 64 bit processor. Yes - it will. Mine is a 64 bit AMD processor (dual core) and it runs without a hitch. I don't use the Organizer on a regular basis and only bring it up when trying to help someone on the forum here, and it opens every time.

Gene,
I have tried unsuccessfully to locate any info about Photoshop Elements 5.0 (or any other of its versions) running with a Windows XP operating system/64 bit processor.
The only article that I came across suggested to me that you need a 64 bit application to work with a 64 bit processor. Since Adobe seems to have stayed with 32 bit Photoshop CS3, I just assumed that Elements was still a 32 bit application. If you look at the System Requirements for Photoshop Elements 5.0, it looks like the processors included at the 32 bit type.
All that being said, I found it very interesting that you have found that Photoshop Elements 5.0 works with your 64 bit processor. Did I understand that correctly.
Would you have the time to (a) comment further on that valuable first hand information (b) correct me if I have misunderstood this 32 bit/64 bit issue.
Thanks.

I also have a 64 bit processor and I have no problems at all. I have both elements 4 and 5 and both run with no problems.

ATR:
My setup is an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core processor, running WinXP Pro, 32 bit. I am running a 32 bit operating system on a 64 bit processor. I also searched on 64 bit on the Adobe site, and could not find mention of 64 bit operating systems, or 64 bit processors for that matter (except something in German that I can't read). I was running a single core Athlon 64 when I initially installed PSE5, and WinXP Home edition at the time. The upgrade to dual core and WinXP Pro have been since my installation of PSE, along with a memory upgrade to 2 Gig from 1 Gig.
I'm certain Elements is a 32 bit program. One of the reasons I have not gone to a 64 bit operating system is program compatibility. I don't want to end up with programs I can't use, nor do I want to take the chance on it. I can wait, for that matter.
In the meantime, even though my operating system isn't a 64 bit one yet, I have gained a performance increase with the 'better' processor. And noticed even more by going to the dual core. My question for Rick at this point is, are you absolutely sure you're on XP Home edition and not XP 64 bit?
Microsoft® Windows Vista™ (32-bit only), Windows® XP, or Windows Media Center Edition (XP and MCE require Service Pack 2)
Looking at that from the system requirements page on Adobe for PSE5, I think it is reasonable to assume if it requires 32 bit Vista, it also won't run on 64 bit XP. (I am aware that we aren't discussing Vista at this point.) :D
I also looked on Microsoft.com for compatibility issues, and they issued an update to Vista on July 11 that improves its compatibility with older Adobe products, PSE4 being among them. And the only compatibility problems they mention for XP are on Service Pack 2, issues with the help files and rich text format, not the Organizer.
Hope this helps! ;)

Wow thanks everyone, this is the first time I've joined a forum to ask questions so would just like to say i really appreciate the prompt friendly response's
Umm i have just chekd in, so having read all thats been written- Gene Sorry Im not sure that I have a 64bit operating system. I have AMD Athlon 64 X2 as well and think i have been naive and assumed that it meant i t was a 64 bit system. Sorry- This is all quite new to me so just a a step learning curve here.
Will Try and find out exactly what I have before asking more questions

Hi Rik:
You'll find there a several of us that will readily respond to requests for help. And like lots of things, you will also find there is more than one way to get something done. Especially in PSE!.
Anyway, the reason I asked if you're sure you have XP Home comes from my being in tech support. You'd be surprised how many times the questions "is it plugged in?" or "is it turned on?" get answered in the negative! :) I generally start with the simple things and its not meant to be a reflection on anyone's computer savvy (or intelligence, for that matter). Just a means to an end in troubleshooting that works probably 98% of the time.
So, we have established that PSE will run on a 64 bit processor, but needs a 32 bit operating system, like XP Home edition, or Vista Home/Basic (seems all the Vista flavors also have a 64 bit version). If nothing that has been discussed here or suggested has helped resolve the problem, we need to dig deeper. :D And questions like this force us all to dig deeper and learn more, so they are also part of our learning curve. Keep them coming! :)

OK so it is definitely XP Home.
I used the PE 5 last night constantly for 4-5 hours (editing photos but opening them from windows explorer) and had no problems but as so as i switch to the organiser- It comes up with the error and shuts down but the photor editor window will stay running ok.
Hmmmm- ? ? ? so YES PLEASE to any help or thoughts
Its start of new work day for me here 'down under' so just off to work now.
Thanks again for the replys ;)

Do you have Google Chrome installed on your system? If so, uninstall it and re-start. Your organizer issues should disappear. There seems to be a conflicting dll(?)file between Google Chrome and PSE 5.02. I removed Chrome based on a suggestion from someone in the Adobe Elements forum and it worked like a charm. That was on a 32bit Vista Basic system. As for 64bit, I have loaded PSE 5.02 on Win7 Home Prem. 64bit and no problems to report yet.

First of all, in regards to a statement by Genevh which says "So, we have established that PSE will run on a 64 bit processor, but needs a 32 bit operating system, like XP Home edition, or Vista Home/Basic (seems all the Vista flavors also have a 64 bit version)." I disagree. My PSE5 runs properly on Vista Home Premium 64-bit version.
With regards to Rick's statement: "but as so as i switch to the organiser- It comes up with the error and shuts down" ... could you provide us with the exact error message, and a much more detailed explanation of what you see happening?
Also, Rick, you need to make sure you have installed the PSE 5.0.2 patch otherwise it may not run properly on any flavor of Vista; and you should also follow the instructions here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb400848&sliceId=1
