View Full Version : Admins?

ummm...just a quick silly question for you fine folks...who are the admins for this site? Is it the high ranks of you "frequent members/posters"? Who do I contact with a problems, suggestions or ideas? The reason I ask I was an admin for a huge online gaming site with over 100,000 members in charge of artwork submissions & art related questions but it's a bit strange that I don't see the word "admin" or "forum moderator" next to anyones name.
Ok...I know I have been here since January & I never brought it up before but I'm just curious...who do I go to when I have ideas for the site? I have contributed a lot to forum sites in the past but who do I turn to with my ideas?

Rob, the most visible site "super moderator" is Tami Frye, who spends a lot of quality time here. I'm guessing there are others, but they rarely if ever participate in any threads that I've read.

We all "play nice" so there isn't a lot of moderation needed. :)

Due to today's events with lowriderma maybe we do need a member Moderator who can take care of spammers when Admin is not in the office.

There are several of us that check in on the forum over the weekend as we have time. I've started to remove today's spam posts.

How about delaying immediate posting privileges until a new member has posted some arbitrary number of legitimate messages. For example, BillyBob registers today but any messages he posts are held until released by an Admin or Moderator. After 25 legit posts, BillyBob has full posting privileges.

Thanks Paul
Lee, seem like that would take up alot of the Admin/Moderators time and the new person may not come back to the site as it takes so long for their post to be submitted to the forum for an answer while waiting for approval. The quick friendly response I got when I first found this forum was what kept me around.

I had sent an email to Tami Fry, since I also did not know who to contact when these things occur, plus used the "contact us" area to report the spam. Hopefully, this will be a rare occurrence and no moderating will be necessary.

You can easily report spam or other questionable/prohibited activites by clicking on the little red triangle at the top right corner of the offending message. That opens a dialog that prepares and sends a report to the moderator.

I see! A high maintenance woman who desires instant gratification...:D
This forum uses vBulletin, a very sophisticated system. It has capabilities for naming as many Moderators as desired and giving each mod just the controls he/she needs. The page below shows just a few of the controls available to mods. By giving the ability to delete or moderate posts to a few regulars with long records (not the criminal kind :D), KW employees wouldn't be bothered at all and response would be very quick.

I agree with Kim. The quick response to any and all posters is a terrific feature of this forum and shouldn't be inhibited in response to a few rogue spammers. How many times have we seen someone come here with a project that needs to be done in a very short time period? And they almost always get what they want/need within their time constraints.
It really ain't broke and it don't need fixin'.......

Chuck, that was exactly my situation. I now have photos published in a national Powder Finishing magazine thanks to the quick response to this forum.

Just checked out the little red triangle in the corner. Had no idea what it was for, and in fact, not sure I really ever noticed it. (I'm one of those people who doesn't see anything in a store unless it's eye-level. lol)

Patti, don't feel bad, I didn't notice it either til someone pointed it out.
Chuck, hard to believe it has been almost a year since I found this site and the magazine was published last October. Didn't get me anywhere so far.:(:D

Kim, only 11 months and nearing 5,000 posts! You may have received something from this forum, but you've certainly given back lots of your time and knowledge!

Kim, I agree with you about not putting new forum members "on probation".
I started posting last October -- yes, with a question. It was exciting to immediately see it, there it is, my post. Understand, this was the very first time I had done anything like this on the internet. And this is the only forum on the internet that I read and participate in.
What was more exciting was the almost immediate string of responses to my posted question. Every single one made me welcome to the group. I believe the very first or second one (Wendy I think) answered my question. But the welcome posts kept coming.
It's not a question of instant gratification. Heck, I could have waited a day for my answer. More important, to me, was that this was obviously a group of nice and kind people. The kind of folks I like to hang out with. :D

I am only able to put in knowledge of what the awesome people here have taught me. Most of my post have been asking for help or commenting on others work or helping hyjack the gold text thread:D.
Rusty, This was the only forum I read and responded to since finding it until DDD started. I have only been on it a few times but I can't see myself spending more time there as with Jane's QP Challenge I see myself getting into a new addiction in scrapping.:D But hey, that site was started by several from here.
Edit: UT OH. I think I am hyjacking another thread. Sorry Rob.

I agree with Chuck, "It really ain't broke and it don't need fixin"
It seems to me with the red triangle and Paul, systems admistrator, and or Tami Frye taking the appropriate action would be the solution in a majority of the cases.
To be found guilty before ever committing a crime does not sound quite right. All newbies must past muster by having a number of their posts reviewed before reaching the forum. This site is used hundreds of times a day 365 days a year and one or two misfits are going to dictate the behavior of those who use the site responsibly?
I think the objective of the forum is to encourage the use and the understanding of PSE as a tool to express one's creativity through visual expression.
This forum does an excellent job in helping newbies like me, an excellent job of experts helping experts and in sharing their works of art in the galleries.
Keep up the excellent work!
Chuck is right, "It really ain't broke and it don't need fixin"

Hi Guys
As the primary Moderator forum I am here alot... you just don't always see me since I'm sneaky, but most of the time I am visible. I moderate the forum 7 days a week occasionally I go out for dinner or out to the pool and sometimes I go out and take photos:) On weekends you are likely to be unsupervised the most. I may go a whole Sunday afternoon without checking but always check before and right after an extended absence. during the week I'm available with at most an hour wait time between a report and an action..The triangle is your friend:) it send me as well as anyone else with moderation status a report so you are getting your message to multiple people with the triangle.
Also as Wendy mentioned once you hit the triangle please post a message that you have reported the post so y'all don't spam me about the spammer :D
Thanks Have a Great Evening!

Tami,
I had an inkling that your schedule was kind of like that. Are you allowed to sleep--we are on 24/7 and there are a lot of us to keep up with? :D

Tami, you are wonderful. All I know is, whenever we have these kinds of issues, you seem to quickly appear. I have been often astounded by your prompt Saturday and Sunday work.
Just remember, if you turn off the phone and remote computer -- we will survive :D

As I said recently in another thread, this is a partying group, and I see by those "raising a glass" another party is in the works. Just don't anybody spill anything in my keyboard, okay? :D Bummer, I have to go to work in less than 5 hours, so no al-key-hawl for me! (Tami, I raise a hypothetical glass to you.)
