Hi,

How can I make a text in small caps in Photoshop Elements 5? I'm using that quite often i Photoshop CS, but am now working mainly in Elements.

Thanks!

/Daniel

I don't think that's an option in Elements but there is a sneaky way to do it. Just slide in a text layer created in Photoshop that has been formatted in Small Caps and you can edit it and it will stay Small Caps :)

There are ways to enter text in Large and Small upper case letters. It depends on the font.

Four come to mind: Trajan Pro and 3 within the Lithograph "family". These are True types that, I believe, "came with" my PC.

If you type a capitalized word, the first letter will be a "normal" upper case capital letter and the subsequent letters, even after releasing the shift key, will still be upper case but will be somewhat smaller in size. In fact, it's impossible to type lower case letters with those fonts.

Of course, I may not understand your Q :)

Another way I could think to try would be to make two separate text boxes, the first with a larger font for the first capital and the next box with smaller capital letter, and use PSE5 align tools. Kind of a pain in the ******* :D Or perhaps look at www.dafont.com for other fonts that only type in small caps. Good luck.

Thanks for your replies! I guess the easiest way to do small caps with any font then is to type all in upper case and then select the first letter to make it larger than the others.

Russell Brown has a great video on a similar technique that you can adapt. It's amazing what you can do with Open Type.

Hi NG,

when i want all caps i use copperplate. There are other fonts, but I like this one. It is particularly nice on business cards. By the way (BTW), Jack your nature photos are great. Why did you caption them "so so?"
Cheers,
Bob

The previous post was to be set in Copperplate font. Instead, I got the tags:(.

Thanks Robert, beauty is in the eye of the beholder so I just let people judge for themselves. I also know I need to improve on my snapshots. Nature photography is easy to get nice results. People, Portrait and Sports seems harder for me to grasp. :D

Hi Jack,

I took a look at your Grassland Eagles pictures. The basic shots are good. To get that great sports shot try the following. Set the D200 Shooting Mode to Continuous. Stand at the back of the endzone, or where it would be if you are on the practice field. Watch for the holes in the line to develop and take a sequence of your little "future NFL stars" hitting the line holes. Back in the digital darkroom, crop your pictures such that the 85 pound players look like they are being paid ten million dollars for their effort!

Let us see the results.

Cheers,

Bob
