I really enjoyed Lesa King's article on page 16 of the new Newsletter. So effective and so easy to do.

I know how to do a colored selection within a B&W background. But, WOW, this technique is 100% "adjustable" - really cool.

Rusty,
that is very effective.
Have just received my copy of the newsletter and this is one technique I'll definetly be trying.

Rusty,

It was the first thing I tried once I got the newsletter. I'd done this sort of thing before - Scott Kelby's 'Down & Dirty Tricks' has a similar thing - but IMHO the coolest thing about Lesa's technique was the fact that a) it is adjustable & b)you can just drag it on to any other photo.

I did not completely understand how to drag to another photo. Is it just the first layer, the one named Color Fill 1, that is dragged into the second image?

'course I shouldn't be lazy and simply ask, I should try that :D

Rusty,

Just select the top three layers by whatever method for your version of PSE (I'm on PSE3 so I had to link them) then select the move tool & you can either move then around within the same photo or I dragged them onto another photo in the photobin! Then you can adjust everything in the new photo as well. Way cool!

Nice job Rusty. It was also the first one I did as soon as I got the Newsletter. I too had trouble with the same part you did but I was stubborn and refused to give up til I got it. With not having much time laterly to play in Elements I got a little rusty myself and made myself figure it out. My problem was that I was selecting the on the Hue/Saturation layer, not the color fill layer and then I had the foreground and background colors switched so I wasn't getting the black box to show. DUH, blonde moment:D

I agree Rusty. I thought this looks like a re-run, but its a great technique. I had a lot of fun playing around with it. I tried adding a posterizing effect to mine.
