I am new to photo edit programs.

When I make changes to a photo in Quick Fix or Full Edit and try to save the changes using "save" or "save as" I get the following message "The filename specified already exists. To save this file in a version set with the original file, a new filename must be provided. Please provide a new name or uncheck 'save in version set with original'.

The 'save as' dialog box never opens.

If I return to organizer I get a red banner over the photo saying 'edit in progress. If I try to exit editor the editor freezes.

I am using Photo shop elements 5.0.2 and Windows Vista.

Thanks for your help.
Don

Hi Don & NG,

Welcome to the friendly newsgroup (NG). You will find that people in this community will race to answer all of your Photoshop Elements (PSE) questions. The usual cause of grief in this area is with Version Sets. When using the Save As function you will notice two option checkboxes in the lower part of the window marked Save Options. Uncheck the one called Save in Version Set with the Original. If you do not use Organizer, and I do not, you can uncheck the other box too.

Now your description sounds a tad more involved. If the above does not work, can you save as a totally different file name. For example if your original file was called MyFile.psd can you save as MyFile1.psd?

I too am using PSE 5 with Vista. After a rough start, it is working fine here. If your problem persists, write back and I will try to help you out.

Cheers,

Bob

Thanks Bob for your reply this I am learning a lot reading this forum.

It probably wasnt clear in my post but when I try 'save as' I never get the 'save as' box, so I cant make any box selections. I have searched the faq and postings but find no reference to this. I will reload the program again and see if that helps.
Thanks
Don

Hi Don,

With my source disks firmly in hand I would reinstall PSE. Was this an upgrade to an earlier version of PSE or a brand new installation? If brand new, I would completely remove PSE from my system. If it is an upgrade, I would call Adobe and ask them about removal first. My PSE / Vista combination works fine, so I am sure the good folks at Adobe will get you up and running in short order.

Good Luck,

Bob
