Hello!

After watching Matt's new video on the most recent raw plug-in I downloaded it and have been working with it. So far so good.

Here's my problem: when I've finished working with an image in the raw plug-in and open it in the editor to save it as a jpg and/or tweak it further, the image is washed out. It doesn't look like the image in the raw editor.

Is this a monitor calibration problem -- or something else?

Thanks and best regards,

Tom

I downloaded it to PSE 4 and love it. Of course all I had to compare it to was Canons DPP softwre].
I have not experienced the problem you seem to be having.

I suspect it's a monitor calibration problem. Raw files don't have a color profile associated with them so when you open the image it will apply whichever profile you have your colour settings set to. (None, sRGB or Adobe RGB). If your monitor is properly profiled it shouldn't make too much of a difference but if it's off then you may well see differences. If you have the Color Settings on Always Optimize for Printing try changing it to Always Optimize for Computer Screens and then bringing in the edited Raw file. That will apply an sRGB profile which works well for me.

The person that installed the Raw plug-in to PSE 4. was that PSE 4 for Windows or the Mac?

My buddy has PSE 4 for windows and would love to get the new RAW plug-in

Thanks

While the new ACR 4.1 does work in PSE 4 (Windows) the Organizer doesn't recognize the image orientation. I use the Organizer and find it annoying when portrait images are sideways. I've resorted to swapping the new and old RAW plug-in depending on whether I'm spending time tagging and rating (old plug-in) or converting RAW (new plug-in).

It would be nice if ADOBE fixed the image orientation issue.

Scott: That's strange. I have ACR4.1 in PSE5 (Windows) and the Organizer correctly orientates the Raw image. Maybe that's why Adobe only say that ACR 4.1 is compatible with PSE5 for Windows.

Tony,
I was puzzled when I first installed the new plug-in and the thumbs weren't rotated. Jpegs rotated ok but Raw didn't. I started to think I had imagined that the rotation had been correct from the beginning. After some searching I came accross a posting (don't recall where) explaining that ACR3.7 corrected a bug in ACR3.6 in which the image orientation data in the RAW file was ignored. After reading that I swapped the RAW plug-in files and voila, thumb image orientation was correct.

I'm going to continue with ACR 4.1 to see if other idiosyncrasies show up with PSE 4. I'm not using PSE to its fullest potential (or even close) so I'm not sure if upgrading to PSE5 is really worth it yet.
