I'm trying to create a custom slideshow in PSE3. I select the images, add the selection and click OK. The images appear in the time line. But, when I go to press the play button to see the slides and transitions I have chosen, the Slide Show Editor Window and all of its buttons and menus become grayed out. As I go to preview the images and the playhead on the timeline moves over each of these pictures, the screen is black. Nothing shows. Even when I do a Full Screen Preview. What is going on?
Help!

I have the exact same problem and am disappointed no one answered this, so I'm going to try bumping it to the top. I am using Photoshop Elements 3

I still have Photoshop Elements 3 and am using the Photoshop Elements 6 tryout, and I have Window XP. What versions of Photoshop Elements and or Premiere Elements are or will be involved in this project for you?

So, these are the things that I will need to know to try to get a handle on what is going on in each of these situations. Although the end result is the same, you both may have different contributing factors involved.

1. What is going into this slideshow that is on the Storyboard (Timeline)? How many images and what are their pixel dimensions. A pixel dimension for a photo can be checked by bringing it into the Full Editor, followed by Image Menu, Resize, Image Size dialog. Is there audio? How many audio clips? What file format, mp3, wav? What is the length of the audio clip(s) in minutes/hours?

2. What is your plan for this slideshow? VCD, DVD-VIDEO, just saving as a wmv slideshow?

3. What is your operating system? Windows XP or Vista. In the case of Photoshop Elements 3, I would assume it is Windows XP??? Do you have enough RAM and free hard drive space? Have you optimized your computer, including defragmentation, evaluation virtual memory sets, etc.???

Let us start there with the emphasis on numbers of slides, pixel dimensions, and status of computer and take it from there.

Does your Windows Userid have Administrator authority?

Which variation of Windows XP are you running?

In PSE 3 people who did not have Administrator authority did have a problem with blank/black previews. I am not sure about later versions of PSE.

However system considerations can also be a significant factor as ATR identified. An additional system consideration is that a shortage of TEMP file space can cause black slides both in the preview and the final product.

So in addition to ATRs list of questions about the contents of your slide show, I suggest that you post the info about Administrator authority.
