PSE3 seems to change resolution

I have had this program for a few years now and now suddenly when I click on the program to load it seems to change the resolution of the desktop picture so it is really grainy looking and takes a while to load then it loads and then goes black for a second or two and then comes back with the right resolution,WEIRD. The program works but sometimes the pointer disappears or the clone tool becomes the pattern tool suddenly so there is something quirky going on but what?

Hard to say without some more details about the computer and operating system. How much RAM memory do you have? If you've had it a while and been adding stuff then it's quite possibly running low on memory which can do wierd things like that. I think someone suggested before resetting preferences. Did that help?
