We were in Carmel,CA last weekend for our Anniversay and had to get some pictures of their adorable cottages. Thought the Colored Sketch was a nice effect, then I thought I would try the Orton Effect next. Which one do you like? I like them both. If I wanted to make them into a card... where do you go to have this done?

Michelle, I love them both but if I was to choose, I really like the way the sketch came out! It looks great on those cottages. By the way, I remember those. I've been to Carmel a couple of times. Isn't is a great place to shop and wander around. Is the "Hog's Breath Inn" still there? Great place to eat. The 1st time I went I saw Clint Eastwood in a restaurant a couple of seats from us eating breakfast. He said hi can you believe! Course that's probably cause he heard my husband telling me to look and I didn't believe him.

I like them both!! but drawn toward the Orton effect...but the sketched image would look marvelous on a postcard or card. Mpix offers both and recently introduced the use of linen paper for their cards....;)

Very nice, Michelle. I really like the composition you achieved with your crop. I was initially going to choose the sketch but I really like the richer tones of the Orton effect.

I vote for the sketch. And I agree that the crop makes it perfect!

My pref is the one in the middle :)
They are both quite nice. If you make cards, why not do some of each?

Great photo and great cropping. My preference is the Orton effect as it seems somehow to capture the feel of Carmel...

I like the softness of the sketch effect but they are both great. If you do the cards let us know how they turn out. I am interested in doing some, also, but haven't researched it yet.

Thank you everyone. I love the Carmel area, what a great place for pictures. It kind of reminds me of those Thomas Kincade paintings. Simply beautiful!
nkeevers: "The Hogs Breath" yes it is still their and we ate lunch their because my husband wanted to go to one of Clint Eastwoods restaurants. Did you know he owns the place? He also owns one more in a different part of Carmel. I guess he eats at these places all the time and very common to see him. My husband was wanting him to come through but he didn't. I love walking around and shopping as well. So many different places to see.
Sarah44: I'm still looking into cards as well. Not sure what is the most economical yet. Simply looking to make a few cards for correspondence. Should be simple... we'll see.

Michelle, yes we did know Clint owned the Hog's Breathe! That's one reason we went there. I liked it because at night it was cool and we ate outside and they had all those heat lamps. I'm assuming they still have the same setup. I haven't been there in quite a while. I was so lucky I saw him and he was actually smiling purposely at me cause I made such a big fuss! He definitely heard me. It was a small restaurant we were having breakfast at. That was a memorable moment.

Here is a website I stumbled across that has many tutorials. One is on making cards from photos.
