I have 2 new brush sets that I would like to add to PSE 5. I copied them to my brushes folder in the preset directory. I restarted elements but no new brushes. SO I searched the forum and found a thread about loading brushes from the preset manager. I tried that .. the 2 new brush sets were in the list to choose from in the "load" dialog. I selected each of the sets one at a time then clicked done ... stilll no new brushes .... I restarted elements again .. with the same result.

 Any advice?

thanks in advance

Hi John,

Are you placing your new brushes, with .ABR extension, directly in the Presets > Brushes folder, or do you have them in a subfolder under Brushes?

directly in the brushes folder with the rest of the brushes that came with Elements

Hold the Shift key when restarting Elements - as soon as you see the white Splash screen, press Shift & hold it until you see the Building Artwork & Effects progresss bar.

actually, ignore my last post.

When you add a "brush" (*.abr), you're actually adding a set, even if the set only has 1 brush in it.

Use the drop menu on the Brushes option bar at the top of the work area to select your new set (it probably has "Assorted brushes" or "Basic brushes" already selected)

You *should* find your new set in there. Then you can select the individual brush you want once the set is loaded.

The brush sets do not show up in the brush drop down at all ... I have added brushes before and didn't have any trouble at all ... I'm suffering from a brain cramp I guess

John,
That has recently happended to me as well. While working on a project, I would load my new brush set, use it; then when I wanted to use another brush set, it would be gone. It wasn't until I refreshed editor or closed and restarted that I would see my new brushes in the pull down menu. Possible PSEv5 bug...

John, hope you find a solution. I've added a lot of (too many) new brushes in vers. 3 and 5 and have never had that happen. I have so many now, that I just keep a folder named Extra Brushes and load them when I want to use them instead of installing them, unless it's one I use all the time.
