My Catch & Release Program continues to go well. Despite a 3-week break while we were out of town, this summer's count moved up to twenty-six this morning. Two so far today.

I include the lower-right image to laugh at myself. When I left for the park my wife asked me why I was taking my camera. I explained that I intended to get a shot of his fat little butt disappearing into the bushes. She laughed saying, "He's too fast, you'll never get it!"
Well, I was prepared. All set up, metering done, focus ready, set to manual so the camera wouldn't attempt to auto-focus, crouched down alongside the trap and pointed in the right direction.
I opened the trap and the little devil ran out the other end and circled around behind me into other bushes!
Stay tuned -- I'll get him yet.

PS - this is an adaptation of one of Jane's nice templates.

So, is it 26 chipmonks or 26 car-rides for the same chipmonk? :D

Sure Rusty, that's your story and your sticking to it:D

No, No, Julie, it is not one well traveled chipper. How big can their brains be? Besides, it's a short trip in the trunk of the car. They don't know where they are going or how they got there :D (they also get to listen to music on the way)
It's the truth, Charlotte. Really! I was ready; he just wouldn't cooperate!

Rusty, along with Julie are you sure it isn't the same chippy?

Rusty, just kidding. Sounds like some of the things that happen to me:D

I was laughing at your story because my neighbor had a similar experience last year with red squirrels which were making a home in his attic. At first he was taking the captured critter about 1/2 mile away and the next day he'd have another in the trap. Then he started taking them 3 miles away. Again, a few days later he'd have one back in the trap. His attic was finally sealed properly and at that point his trapping program ended. Funny thing is that we did not observe a marked reduction in the squirrel activity in our yard or in the shared trees even though he had supposedly removed 20 or so of them from the neighborhood. I have heard their territory can be a wide as 1 mile. Anyway, hope you solve your problem...

Rusty, Maybe you need to "tag" them when you relocate them, just to be sure?:D:D
Cute layout!

I have a lot of fun with my Chipmunk Relocation Program . My daughter threatens to have a T-shirt made for me, "CRP Expert".
Most of my friends insist that I am chauffeuring a small group of pampered chipmunks (car rides with music) around the neighborhood. I am equally adamant with my "small brains" argument :) I caught and moved 51 in 2005 and SEVENTY-THREE last year (the word must be getting around about the car rides).
I can watch them out the window coming from yards on either side; they make a beeline for the two squirrel feeders for the sunflower seeds. If they would just stay out of DW's flower pots we would welcome them with extra seeds :D
Their little toes hang out the bottom of the trap - maybe I should add polish before release :)
I'm glad you are getting a lough as well.

Rides with music, and now pedicures...
They will be coming in droves

They are destructive little critters but so adorable. We have a pair that live under our patio, there is a big crack that they come in and out of. Poor little things are gonna be very upset when we redo that big slab of cement!
