I came across a great site on a really unusual topic – pictures of moths - a while ago. The artist – Jim des Rivières - was featured on a local TV show and has a web site – click here (http://www.moths.ca/index.html)– where he shows some of his work in amazing detail.

He uses a high resolution scanner to produce these enormous prints – up to 40x60 inches – that have to be seen to fully appreciated. They look 3 dimensional.

The site has a lot of technical details as well as a moth on the front page with a powerful zoom capability.

I was able to meet with Jim and see a number of his great shots – absolutely amazing. This is defintely worth taking a look and consider using your scanner as a really high resolution camera!

If you are in the Cambridge Ontario or Ottawa Ontario area, there is information on his web site about exhibits of his work.

John: Thanks for that link. The images are amazing on screen and must be even more so in print. It's interesting how much detail he provides about the technical aspect of producing the prints. Perhaps I'll mosey up to Gatineau Park to see his exhibit...

Hi Julie,

I was looking at you gallery and realised you are a "local" girl. The trip is definitely worth it!

Love your shots!

Thanks, John. I'll try to get up there before too long but will have to wait until my daughter is in camp since she is afraid of moths!

Wow, those images are incredible. I spent WAY too much time zooming around the large images. ;)

Thanks, again!
