OK... guys.

My camera club is having a photo shoot Monday with 8 belly dancers.
(I know... suddenly the guys are real interested) :p

Here is my question

They will have sets set up with backdrops and lighting. It came up in conversation that the D70 had to have a hot shoe adapter. Does anyone know how the D80 is set up to work with lights? Yes, of course I am completely lost.

Any help is appreciated. :)

Kimi: What they are referring too is the fact that the D70 and the D80 don't have PC sync jacks (you need the D200 to get one). That lets you plug in a cord from external strobes to fire them. The hot sync adaptor basically just adds a PC jack to the hot shoe. I'm surprised that they don't have a set-up that lets you use your internal flash set on low power to fire the studio lighting - the studio lighting session I went to had a set up that fired when you fired the camera flash. But if someone has a D70 hot shoe adaptor you should be able to put that on a D80 I think.

If you get stuck let me know and I'll fly on down :D

Hi Kimi & NG,

The hot shoe is one of the few things in photography that is truly universal. One size fits all; actually there really is only one size. I run my vintage Sunpak strobe off of my D70 with one. The Nikon part number is AS-15. You should be able to pick one up at any old fashioned camera store.

Have fun on Monday and post a few shots for us.

Cheers,

Bob

Robert,

I would like to agree with you about hot shoes being universal. Unfortunately, I can tell you from personal experience that these are usually universal, but not always universal. In fact, accessory shoes are not universal. For example, about two or three years ago, in an effort to sell only their own accessories, Sony, yes, you read correctly, Sony changed their accessory shoes on several cameras to their own format and size so that no third party accessories fit. Believe me that this is fact, I unfortunately am a victim and I bought one of their top models that suffers from their own shoe size.

Thanks everyone. I will go out Monday and pick one up. Some said they had one I could use but I don't want to hold up anyone.

Tony... fly on down. I could always tell them I hired a tutor. ;)
