Did I miss a thread or two today or did no one post their photos of yesterday's fireworks??
I might have tried, but the weather here was so terrible all day that I passed on the opportunity....
But would love to see your work!!

Our fireworks aren't until Saturday. 4th of July just wasn't the same without them, but to make the carnival last through the weekend they moved their fireworks to Saturday this year.

No fireworks allowed here due to drought conditions and high heat. It reached 100 degrees at my house on July 4th, and we're talking 7000 feet elevation.

Hubby and I had a GREAT seat at the park for the fireworks but, alas, the weather was such that we didn't want to risk taking the cameras. Had a fun date and saw The Music Man at Theater in the Park. The fireworks were timed to occur during intermission. Guess I will have to relive the moment through other people's images. :)

thank you Judy. great job.
We were home, and although the neighbors shot some off, I never knew which direction to aim the camera...so I didn't.

Ooooh! Great fireworks Judy! We had lousy weather....looked like rain so we didn't go out and see any. Our neighbor set a lot off later in the night but I didn't get my camera out.

Rained all day but cleared enough in the evening to head to a friends dock.
Ran...tripod in one hand, camera in the other. Had hoped I had my settings right. Trouble getting the camera on the tripod in the dark but did grab a few at the end.

I took some (384) but haven't had the time to process them. My daughter is visiting from AR and I've also been processing our fresh garden produce. Green beans out the wa-zoo! I'll get my shots posted sometime on Sunday

I am planning to do something like that. We'll see. I've also thought about making some sort of collage that could be hung up in my house every time the Fourth rolls around.

Good first attempt Kim. They're a bit overexposed (Mine have the same problems). Notice how the blacks aren't quite black (some of it may be smoke) in #1, 3 & 4. Number 2 looks very black and I like the crop. If you take a shot of just the airburst, a square crop works very well. I also like the reflections off the water. You might try bringing that out a bit more in PP.
Here are some from our town (40 mi north of San Diego). I planned to have the lit dome of city hall in the foreground and had the camera set up on my tripod atop my RV. I took a few test shots of the dome to check exposure before the fireworks started. It was a good thing I did because, just before the show, they turned off the lights on the dome. In all these shots, the dome was added back in afterwards. Sorry for the sloppy job of adding back the dome. Think of these as "proof of concept". :D

For the gearheads, these were taken with a Canon 10D and 17-40/4L at 40mm. I used the 10D because that's what the lens was already mounted on. Exposure was f11 at 30 seconds and I used a ball cap to block the lens between bursts because I forgot the black felt cloth in the RV. I controlled the shutter with an ADIDT (Chinese knock-off) wireless remote in wired mode.

I forgot to mention focusing. How did you focus your camera? The easiest way is to set your camera to MF and set the lens to the infinity mark. If your lens doesn't have an infinity mark, you can use a hyperfocal distance chart. Hperfocal distance is the distance at which everything from half of the hyperfocal distance to infinity will be in focus. So, a 17mm lens at f16 has a hyperfocal distance of 3.9 ft,. Everything from half the distance (1.95 ft) to infinity will be in focus. You simply focus on an object 3.9 ft away and you're set.
Hyperfocal charts are all over the Internet. Fotosharp (http://www.fotosharp.com)sells a nice plastic laminated card for $5.
