I'm so excited to get started on this! One question -- by Sept. 12th, WHERE do we post the picture?
Will, thank you so much for all your work on these fun projects.

It seems that Pixentral is the place to post your final photo -- this way everyone can view and comment as desired. Most people didn't want to use up gallery space and it would mean searching for a picture without knowing which one. So Pixentral is the best with a link in the Assignment thread.
lindajay
September 4th, 2005, 09:25 AM
And do we use THIS thread to post the Pixentral link? Or will there be a "Post Photo Assignment #1 Here" thread?
--Linda

The thread for posting is listed as Photo Assignment #1, etc. -- that is where the links go. This thread is for any comments related to that assignment -- there'll be a comments #1 etc to go with the assignment thread.

Question ......
If life in general ..... work (yuck) , personal or social commitments, health issues, weather, etc. ..... prevent you from getting a shot on the assigned subject during the posted time frame, can you submit a photo that you have taken in the last few months? :?

I have pondered this question for the better part of a day and using existing photographs would defeat the purpose of having an assignment to capture a photo. Since we are not being graded you might make up for a rough week by doing two pictures in another week, then post them to the appropriate thread.
That is what I think would be the best alternative to life's twists and turns.

Why not just post images in the thread, with a max file size :?:

Tom, I think using Pixentral would be better as posting here directly would cause alot of delays and I wouldn't feel right about sucking up space here.

Okay Wombat2 ..... where's yours?

I didn't look at the links...I thought we were waiting t'il the 12th to post ? No ?
Kathy
September 6th, 2005, 09:08 AM
Jodi,
Sorry if I misinterpreted  .... I thought we were to take the photo anywhere from the 5th to the 11th and the 12th was the last date you could post the Water Assignment since it said "due by".
If everyone waits to post on the 12th and then starts commenting on the same day, will that not be taxing on the system? For me , it would be hard to keep it all straight if it came in one big rush. :?
Again ... sorry if I messed up

September 6th, 2005, 09:46 AM
Jodi,
It's like Grant's Challenge I thought .... post any time within the time slot with a final due date.
I would not normally post so early, except that I have to go back to work tomorrow  and I wanted to get rid of any "distractons". Personally, I enjoy the "distractions" much more than work ... but that's life. I totally agree with not looking at the other images until you come up with your own .... mine just came on a whim so to speak so I grabbed it and ran with it. That's the best method for me ..... just do it.
I am really looking forward to seeing all the photos. It will be a real learning experience. Thanks for suggesting it in the first place. :)

I was assuming that it was the same as Grant's ... post anytime up to last date.

I am thinking along the lines that Kathy has -- waiting til the last day to post might prove taxing on systems, keeping track of threads, and other mayhem -- I think if the Assignment is complete (in the opinion of that particular photographer) then posting it is committing to that image. Not take backs allowed.
Some of us may choose to shoot at different times and different ways and wait to sort the picture out of a number of images -- which is what I plan on doing since I don't always like the first few I do.
So it is cool by me to post when you are sure you are ready.

Hi Will-me again
Rules, no rules?
Thanks,
Carol
GaryK
September 6th, 2005, 08:26 PM
Carol
If I remember correctly the only rules are that you have to take the subject photo that week, and the only photoshopping is for photo correction as opposed to creation.
Now I have probably messed up  so hopefully I'm close.
Gary.
willpresley
September 6th, 2005, 08:43 PM
Gary you are so succinct -- I would have narrated it to death but you nailed it quite precisely. Gotta take the picture, no using existing files, and have a week to work on a photo that you feel is your best shot -- just getting us out to do more things to expand our wings.
I'm back now and catching up so bear with me on belated posts.

To heck with it. I looked!! Some great photos by Kathy, Wombat and Linda. Unlike some I have access to plenty of water. A lake near by, some creeks, the locks..........but, so I choose that or do something different?? There is the water truck that fills up just down the road. Thought about asking him to let it over flow while filling so I could get a picture. My daughter (okay she's 14), suggested the inside of a toilet bowl. (I would enter that one under her name on her behalf if she took it!) Time to get serious tomorrow and go hunting for water shots.

Merrill what a lovely pictures.
Wendy. Your weeds didn't look to bad at all. I guess you just don't have time to tend to them, due to all those computer hours. (that's what I have kids for!)
I have finally posted mine. I had a better water shot from a few weeks ago at the cottage but it's already in my album, and that would be cheating, so I went with the foggy creek and enhanced it a bit with a filter.
My other water shot, I am saving for the sunset entry!

I wasn't inspired by the lakes around here. Between over-developement and road construction, I looked for inspiration at home. The drain has a vortex when draining, water in motion. Industrial minimalist. I used a D 50 on Auto close up, haven't looked at other meta data yet.
I didn't look at anyones' image until mine was posted. WOW! They are all great.

Sarah - Love the raindrops. Like the way you caught the "sun sparkles".
Punkinsmom - I really like the combination of colours in your photo. Very nice.
Tony W - Rainbow colours are amazing. I'm with Sherry on the PSE thing .... just kidding :) ..... wonderful image.
Merrill - Absolutely beautiful. So serene !!!
Tom M - Clarity is wonderful. Like the motion.
Wendy - Did you get wet taking that photo? :) Love the reflection, sheen on the rocks and pattern from the raindrops. Wonderful ... weeds and all.
Pauline - Very serene!!
Eva - I love it! Wonderful thinking outside of the box.
Whew ..... thought I would catch up before more are posted and I forget who posted what.
Before I forget ..... Sarah ... my camera settings were F/3.2, focal length 12 mm, 1/320 sec, ISO 80, exp. compensation -0.3. Sarah .... that's a great idea to ask that ...... maybe Will can ask everyone to include this information on the future assignments when they post their photo.

Rain has been scarce this year and so the lakes and streams around here are low and I didn't feel like driving out to the dam to see what I could come up with. I just decided to use the watering wand -- but the wife insisted I crop it out of the picture and I'm glad I did because it works better without a blue spout where the water is coming from.

Thanks Mary, it is indeed a special place. Alot of history....but best of all it tends to be quiet as not too many people appreciate beauty and serenity as much as we do..if you looked at the second link I posted that has a little history about the area you will see a bridge. I love this bridge...I love taking pictures of it...as a matter of fact there is one in my gallery and i just fished out this one that I took earlier in the year...it's kind of a weird photo as it was the first day with my new polarizer filter and i was still trying to figure out how to use it :roll: ;

Lynn I loved your picture - my Aunt and Uncle and 2 cousins lived in Portland and I used to spend my vacations with them. I have been to the falls but I had forgotten how gorgeous it is.
I wish I had thought of the Mirage - didn't enter my head. I guess I am still too new to Las Vegas . :)
