I have been trying to capture a shot at him for a while. Finally got my chance, but I had to shoot through the window. So I had to make some adjustments!

There is one nesting in a telephone pole at the entrance of the nature center where I volunteer. Of course, I always see it when my camera with the long lens is back at the house...

I couldn't sleep because a woodpecker was out side my bedroom window. not to mention crickets, frogs, etc.
He is a beauty. Thanks

Great shot!
I've been trying for ages to nab a good picture of the one hanging around our house and I've had no luck. He laughs that incredible Woody Woodpecker laugh and flies away just before I have the camera ready!

I watched one of those pileated woodpeckers totally destroy an old stump. They are something else. Nice work.

Chuck, I just want to kick myself, when I leave my camera at home. That's always when you see that perfect shot! :D

That's why I've been carrying a point-and-shoot with me 90% of the time now. It's only a 6:1 optical zoom, but it's better than no camera at all!

If the woodpecker starts hammering on your house, call the exterminator - not for the woodpecker, but for termites or other nasty bugs.. They're usually a good early warning system for various critters that may be trying to devour your wood!

now that is real comforting thought. I relocated and let the woodpecker have the place. Hope he has a good time.

I can't believe you got a picture finally. Birds take patience, something most people don't have. Nice job!
