Restoring Baptismal Certificate

I had my mothers baptismal record from 1907, which was in pretty bad shape, and after many hours, have a presentable copy. The tears had been taped with "original" Scotch Tape, which had dried out and fallen off, leaving the residue. In her late 80's, she decided to write on the original, which I left on the restoration. Much of the copy is in Danish, so if anyone can give me a translation, I would appreciate it.

It can have some strange results ... try typing something in, translate it into another language and then translate it back.

The results can sometimes be very odd !! :)

So i manage to translate those section (but dont ask me to translate the handwriting because i dont understand that part.

Daabs Attest (appear at the top line, above the name) - Certificate of Baptism

Født/Fodt - Born (the first line it says 1907)
Døbt/Dobt - Baptised (2nd line where it says 1907)
Af - of (it appears to be the name of the husband)
Og Hustru - And Wife (wifes name seems to be here)
Daabsvider/Daabs????er - Baptiser (name of the person who baptised the child)

? - I really cannot see what those letters are, but this is roughly what it says.

The only word I had trouble with was the last name of the priest.

Strange is that the priest wrote the:
"Danish Lutheran Priest", so I guess that he was from south here (Germany fight).

Born: February 19, 1907
Babtist: Mai 1, 1907
Daughter of "Hans Andersen" and wife "Julie Eline"
(Julie Eline Andersen because she was married with Hans, but Julie was born with the name Lauritsen).

Witness: Laurits Lauritsen and wife (there isn't a name of his wife, just the words "and wife").
Conclution: I think Laurits was Julie's dad or brother.

Ok, about the picture: Ansgar is babtisting the first child in Denmark.
That was about year 800 B.C.

No translation:
Sct. Ansgar var den vigtigste af de missionærer, der fra 800-tallet forkyndte troen i Danmark, men først med kong Harald Blåtands dåb ca. 960 blev katolsk kristendom landets officielle religion. Omkring 1070 var inddelingen i 8 bispedømmer indført, og 1103 oprettedes en selvstændig kirkeprovins under ærkebiskopperne i Lund. Inden for denne struktur udfoldede kirkens liv sig, talrige sognekirker blev bygget, og langsomt kristenedes livssyn og kultur.
Fra 1100-tallet rejstes mange klostre, og uddannelse af unge og omsorg for nødlidende skabte nye institutioner. Helgener som Sct. Knud Konge, Sct. Knud Lavard og Sct. Vilhelm gav troslivet personlig skikkelse for folket. Forholdet mellem kongemagt og kirkeledelse gav dog anledning til problemer. Harmonien indtil 1245 afløstes af stridigheder, den såkaldte ærkebispestrid, der varede omkring et århundrede. Nye vanskeligheder forårsagedes af pavernes ophold i Avignon og omkring 1400 af det store pavelige skisma.

Now I found the priest. It was difficult because I couldn't read his lastname.
It was K. C. Bodholdt (born February 1855 in Denmark, but moved to Racine, Wis.) he babtisted your mother on February 29 (or 19) in the year 1907 B.C.

B.C. meens before. How does one write it "after"? maybe "AC" or "BBC" or "B.C.Not" or ...

When I take a job, I never like to give up. :eek: but to find a person that was born in 1855 and then moved to another country, that was not an easy task, especially when I didn't knew his name... :D

I thank you for your translation work as well as the research you did.
You are correct, Laurits Lauritsen was Julies father, and while her mother is not named, her name was Anna Sophie Christiansen, and was born in Flensburg Germany in 1842. They emigrated to the US in 1904, settling in Dwight IL, where my mother was born.
