Hey, thanks for pointing that out, Bill!
Reka, what a unique shot! The red and white banner (or curtain, or whatever it is) grabs my eye and pulls me down to the little tassel with the red bird, and then up to the golden highlights of the pole, or whatever that is. Very cool.
I like it!

Thanks, everyone! As I said on Michelle's thread about her wedding gig, I am so thankful for all of the encouragement, tips, ideas and so forth that this forum and its members provide. I have learned so much already and am ready to learn so much more.
The rule of thirds was something I remembered from my brother 35 years ago (he was a pro photographer) but this forum prodded me into utilizing it. I was so touched myself by some of the photos I took that it brought tears to my eyes. This was one of them. I couldn't believe I had taken it!
To explain, this one of the 200+ photos I took of a local celebration of the anniversary of the revival of the historical militia group which drove the French and the Bavarians, as well as many other enemies, out of Tyrol. My husband was one of the founding members 25 years ago. This was one of the poles holding the flag used to identify one of the troops. They are valuable, embroidered silk flags like this one:

The red and white banner is the flag of South Tyrol, where we live.
