Recently, a woman in our village celebrated her 100th birthday and made it into the village newspaper. I was asked to put this one into the paper, and fixed it up a bit first. It wasn't all too difficult, but I wish I could have fixed the woven back of the chair. I decided cropping the back of the chair was the best I could do. It sure was fun.
Does anyone know what I could have done with the chair back?

Reka,
It looks really good. The crop looks very natural.
The only thing I can think of to possibly 'fix' the chair back, is to use the marquee tool to select some good chair back. place it on it s own layer, and then move it into place, possibly needing to erase some too.

Reka,
Great job!
I agree with the others that's what I would try. But cropping worked just fine.
Very nice job! I'm sure the woman and her family just loved it!

Nice job on the crop. It looks fine to me. Ditto on the method to fix it.

Hi Reka,
That looks great! Nice job on the area around her face and the rest, too! The crop looks just fine...helps draw attention to her face.

What a nice restoration. As for the back of the chair... are you talking about the scratches or where her back rests? Scratches... cloning I agree.

Thanks for the encouragement, guys. I thought it looked pretty good, especially considering it was my first attempt at restoration. I printed out one for each of the kids, gave them a copy on CD to print, and nada...not even a real thank you. Needless to say, I was a bit disappointed.:(

Hi Reka ...
Oh I am just so sorry ... all that work and then not even a proper thank you :(
Still we recognise how much time and effort you put into it :)

Reka, it seems to me that some people aren't aware of how much work it takes to restore a photo like that. They haven't seen us sit in front of the monitor, squinting and mumbling, for hours on end! I took my Mom an 8X10 of the restored photo of my Dad when he was 14 and she just said "that's nice", and laid it down...didn't even put her glasses on for a closer look.:(
The kids may appreciate it more if someone tells them that Ritz Camera would have charged them $49.99 for that CD with one restored image. And it probably wouldn't be as good as yours!

Reka,
I feel your disappoint, and sad that happened to you.
We're all here, and love your work.

Thanks again! I just wish I could get my hands on all the old photos my mom has at home. There are some really nice ones I remember and would love to try my hand at!

So sorry they really don't understand how much time it took you. Hope this doesn't stop you from doing more for others. Keep up the good work and keep posting them here. You know everyone here understand all you went through to get the end result.:)
