View Full Version : My Granddaughter

This ia a photo of my granddaughter taken by her mom on graduation day.
She sent me the photo by e-mail so the resolution wasn't as high as I would have liked. Stupid me my batteries died that day and I didn't have a backup! :o

I followed the suggestions in Matt's book for lightening the eyes and teeth. Softened the skin, changed the skintone, then blurred the background from Dave's video's. Then I did some selective sharpening on the eyes and hair.

Sharon - you've created a lovely effect! Umm... I take it you don't approve of your granddaughter's eye-piercing? ;)

(I can hardly wait to see what my own 2 granddaughters choose for themselves when they reach that age). :)

Tricia- I noticed that, too, and it made me smile! Nice job making it into a portrait from a candid shot.

Thank you all for the nice comments!

Now Tricha, what ever gave you that idea?; ;) Hopefully someday she'll get rid of them. Grandma's just a little bit old fashioned. :D

Sharon great job. I have a feeling you'll be getting a high resolution copy of the original to fix up!! One small thing though is that I would remove that shadow on her forehead cast by her friend. (PS, I would have removed the eyebrow ring too!)

Pauline,

Thank you for the suggestion to remove the shadow. I noticed it was darker there, but it didn't make the connection as to why. Duh! Does this look better? Is it enough, or too much?

Thanks to all,

Sharon

What a wonderful job!! When your grandaughter grows out of wanting the piercing she will love the photo as well. For now I'm sure she rolls here eyes.

Sharon, much better. You matched the colour with that side of her face perfectly. You need to remember that that side of her face is in the shadow so it shouldn't be as light as the other side of her forehead. Great job. Wouldn't even know you touched it up.

One other small thing and I hope you don't think I'm being picky. The hair on the right side has some blur to it. You need that sharp as you only want the background to be blury. She should be in focus.

All these little things are what make the difference between a photo that looks touched up and one that you can't tell. I'm reading a book by Vincent Vercace......."welcome to Oz" and he does a lot of photos of famous people. EVERY ONE is touched up but you can't tell. The sign of a true artist.

Thank you for your compliments, you are all so encouraging.

I've mostly just lurked around on this site because all of you are so amazing; I feel I have such a long way to go. But you have truly raised my confidence to realize some of this stuff is finally sinking in.

Pauline, I don't think your picky at all I do appreciate the help. I did go back and cleaned up more on the hair. Hope it looks better now. I'll have to check out that book.

Thanks again to all,

Sharon

looks great Sharon! You did a fantastic job of it.
It really does take a while to get comfortable with the program but when it happens everything does get so much easier.
