I downloaded the trial offer of PSE5 but could find no users guide/manual - this effectively made the dl useless. Can anyone tell me how to get/find this.
As we all know to find answers RTFM, which I want to do.

Hi ..
... and welcome to the forum :)
This is one place where you never get told to RTFM :) ... it even took me a moment to work out what the letters stood for:)
I'm not really sure about the manual with the downloaded version as I have a boxed version and that came with both a paper manual and an electronic version on the CD.
... but I thought that the electronic version did come with the download .. Have you had a good look inside all of the folders ??
Wendy
PS .. Otherwise we will need to wait for one of the forum members who downloaded PSE5 to comment on this ..

Hi Wendy,
I thought 'Read the Flipping Manual' was understood by all - ;)
I too assumed it would be in the dl - unfortunately cannot now check again.
I uninstalled thinking I could reinstall when I had found somewhere I might get help. Have just tried and told trial period expired - 'Tempus Fugit' but 30days in 2 days.
Don't want to dl again (nearly half a gig) unless I know the manual/guide is there.

Hi ...
I'm afraid that once you have downloaded the trial version you won't be able to download it and install it again ... :(
Sorry I didn't realise that it was the trial you were talking about .. I'm just wondering now if the trial actually doesn't have the manual. Hopefully one of the others, who downloaded their version, will be along soon and will be to let you know if it was indeed there.
I must admit that I did open the manual for a brief period when I first got Elements but I found it much easier to learn by doing lots of tutorials and taking a couple of classes.
If you have any queries about it then one of us will always help ... and promise that we won't tell you to look in the manual (even if you have it) :D:D
I know that a lot of forums do say that sort of thing but we don't here ... when someone is stuck then reading a manual isn't a great deal of help ... its much better if someone talks you through it :)

Hi Wendy'
Now that is not good news :( to only get one chance to dl is poor pr, think of those who get glitches etc.
If I had read that response earlier it would have been bye bye and hello Paint Shop Pro XI - the other option I was looking at.
However, thanks to you and the info you gave about the tutorials to another newbie, which I have been looking at, I'll now buy PSE5.
I'll undoubtedly be back TTFN (that's an oldie, think Jimmy Young)

Peter,
I don't think that you'll regret buying Elements.
I have the manual, looked through it once and that was it.
Everything else was learned through this forum, if you're stuck, ask and someone will have an answer.
Kev.

The manual that comes with Elements is worthless. The program s great and you will learn more here than it will ever tell you. Take a look at your local Barnes and Noble, for Elements 5.0 The Missing Manual, apply named and if you like to read manuals you will be in heaven.

Hey PP
Welcome to the forums.:)
I had the same luck as you with the trial download ..I got a day out of mine. I had used previous versions so for me it was more of a delayed purchase plan.:D
The trial does not have a manual as far as I can recall, but the downloaded non trial does have a 480 page pdf with it.

I just checked the Help in my copy of Elements and there isn't a manual in it. I purchased it as a download as I have always done. The help menu is good. It will take you to online tutorials but the manual isn't there and I paid for mine. There are lots of 3rd party books but that's not what you need if you are trying to use it for evaluation.

Hi Susan ...
Did you download the trial version and then purchase a serial number to use on it ??

I was just looking for help again because I figured there had to be something somewhere, I paid for this thing. If you go to "Window" then open the "How to" pallette, it gives some information there.

No, Wendy, I didn't. I have had PE since version 2. I just had a new mother board installed on my computer too, so I downloaded the latest version from my account and installed that and it was only about a month ago.
You'd think by now I'd have spent time enough to learn it. I get frustrated easily. Even now I'm beginning to think it's easier to spend more time setting up the shot than learning PE. I'll get it eventually.;)

Hi Susan ...
Must admit that I donlt think I have ever really looked at the manuals  ... they are OK as reference books but they are not good at teaching you how to use Elements.
I think the best way to learn is to simply start doing tutorials ... it doesn't matter what they make its the techniques that you learn in them that is important :)

Hi Susan
My 480 pg PDF was in the download versoin but it is not installed in the "program Files>Adobe" folder but in the folder that was created when the download uncompressed.
I'm not on the right computer right now so I can't give the proper path.

Download version users can RTFM -it's here, by default:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 5\User Help.pdf
adjust your drive letter to suit.

We also have a member here called Tinkerbell....though she has yet to submit her first post......maybe we all need to shout out 'we believe in fairies' very loudly to lull her out of lurking:)

I found it in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 5. It was also installed in
C:\Documents and Settings\Susan\MyDocuments\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 5
Don't know why it's in 2 places,. but thanks for the information. I'll have one more to add to the 5 books I have.

Thanks Graffi
Funny... I had it in the uncompressed folder where the setup/install file was. I have no idea why I still have that folder.:D
