Has anyone had any experience with the new Kodak Easyshare printers? I am interested because they seem to have a reasonable cost ink cartridges. Also, is the ink pigment or dye based? I print very few pictures because of the :( cost involved. Currently I have an Epson Photostylus Photo 320 which was basically free after the rebate but I am faced with purchasing a set of cartridges which I can get for $59 at Costco.
Thanks in advance for any advice that I can get.

Hi Joe,
I've had a Kodak EasyShare Printer dock 6000 for several years (maybe 4??) and love it! I think it was the first version of the Easyshare printers.
The paper and ink come packaged together. The ink is in a cartridge similar to what typewriter ribbons were (although larger of course). The printer pulls the paper in and out 4 times--adding the yellow, red, and blue separately and then coats the photo with a plastic film to make it waterproof and smudge proof.
I've printed hundreds (maybe more than a thousand) photos with mine and keep wondering how long it will last! It's nice to be able to take photos and immediately make high quality prints. I would say the prints are more expensive than having them printed at a chain store, but the convenience is great. The price has come down from about 45 cents to about 30 cents for each print now, although you might be able to get the paper/ink kit cheaper than what I've found it for.
Hope that helps!:)

The particular Kodak Easyshare that I am referring to was just release in the last six months. Color ink cartridges go for about $20.

I think that this will give you a look at it.
Thanks for your comments.

Hi Joe,
The Easy Share printer that you posted is a good little printer for 4x6 and 3.5 x 5 prints. I have had mine for over a year now with no problems. The last time I bought the paper and cartridge kit I got the large pack. It came with 170 sheets of paper and with enough cartridges to last. It was @ 45.00 dollars which figures to be about .26 a print. You can find the large packs at Costco or BJ's Wholesale. They make a nice print, glossy paper. Like Kim said, it is convenient for quick prints vs going to the chain stores. Easy Share is the same setup that are used in the Kiosks at WalMart, Walgreen's, CVS, etc....
Hope this helps also.....

Joe,
That's the same paper/ink kit that my printer uses. You'll find that you can purchase the larger packages like Andrea mentions to make the price per print much less (50 cents each for the package of 40, 29 cents each for package of 160). Just did a search and you can get the package of 160 for $41.40 through Amazon!

Hi, just wondering if you guy's know the difference on the Easyshare 500 vs. G600., looking at the two. It appears that you have had some experience with the easyshare. Have a lot of pictures to be developed but quiet a few would like to print of my grandkids, etc. the other would probably sent to Snapfish for development.

Hi Ralph,
I have an Easyshare printer, but it's an older one--still works great!
I don't know anything about the newer ones, maybe someone else who does will be along soon. I tried to find some info comparing the two on the internet, but didn't have any luck!

If you look at this closely it does it by heat transfer. Is this true of this particular series of printers?

Hi Joe,
I believe all of the Easy share printers work in this manner. As Kim stated earlier the printer pulls the paper back and forth, laying down the colors in layers. The cartridge replaces the ink tanks found in most other printers. When your prints are done, they are dry vs being damp from ink. I believe that all of the easy shares can only print up to a 4x6. If you want larger prints you would have to use a different printer or use the on line print servers, such as snapfish, shutterfly....
These printers are compact and portable so you can print anywhere.
The decision will be convenience of printing these at home vs waiting for delivery from other sources unless you go to the chains that have the Kiosks.
Hope this helps with your decision....

If I am reading this right the Easy Share Printer Prints pictures that will last a little longer then if I was to print it on My HP Photosmart 9600, do to the technology on the ESPrinter, correct?
Also able to use Adobe PS5 on the printer as far as enchansing the picture etc. then transferring to a Kodak software or using Adobe.
Have seen Two different Printers G600 for $100 at BB and Photo printer 500 for $150 with a little more gadgets including a small LCD, if I understand it correctly it uses the same tech " the G600 " except no LCD etc.

Hi Zapper,
Kodak advertises that with the new technology of printing, their pictures will last a lifetime..It has to do with the clear coat in the final layer. It makes the prints fade resistant, smudge proof and water resistant. I have 2 printers installed on my computer, the 500 easy share and a HP 5610. When I want to print 4x6 or smaller I use the easyshare, bigger I use the HP. I just toggle between the 2. Anything I want to do with the image is done in PSE5. I click print and pick the printer from the printer dialog box. I haven't had to transfer to the Kodak site. I have never used the LCD screen on the 500. I probably would if I traveled with the printer and needed the prints then. The 500 has 3 slots for most media cards, it also has the capability of Bluetooth. The prices of both the 500 and g600 are very reasonable. It all depends on what you this printer to do.....

For those looking for cheap prints that look great, last forever, can't be torn and are waterproof, have I got a deal for you! I have a spare Kodak dye sublimation printer (just like Easyshares) except prints are 25 cents per 4x6 and only 8 seconds per print. It also prints 5x7 and 6x8. A roll of paper prints 750 4x6 prints and it connects via USB2.0.
I'll sacrifice this puppy for only $2400 including an extra media kit ($180 value). Don't everyone stampede to my front door. :D

Thanks Andrea, I am leaning on buying the G600 at BB for pictures of the grandkids that don't want to wait to send it out etc. otherwise it seems that I prograstinate and developing them this way will pick some good shots and use the ES G600.

Well, I'd like to thank everyone for the wealth of information provided. The Kodak does sound like a good printer. At this time the price per print is a little more than I care for even though that is probably what my Epson is running. Fortunately I live a mile away from a Costco and I cannot beat the seventeen cents a print price tag. I was hoping to find a quality printer that had a print cost of twenty five cents but... Now if I lived in a different area where I couldn't get prints so inexpensively it would be a different story.
Thanks again and keep the discussion going.:)

Joe, you do have a point as far as price goes, but the reason that will be buying the Kodak printer is basically for those pictures that I need at the moment, would say that 90% of the other pictures will go to Snapfish or Costco.:D
