I have finally got my Samsung 225bw Monitor.
Having dreadful problems will try to sort them out bit by bit, although right now I feel Like sending it back for Refund :)
When in Elements 4 how do I manage to get 2 windows/workspaces up side by side together on the screen. ?
I tried rt clicking on the Taskbar & Tile windows vertically but this does not work in Elements. It works or seems to on other websites.
I can move in with the side arrows on other sites but not in Elements 4. I,m talking about the outside frame , not making the Layers pallet wider or narrower.
Could someone please help me . ?
Anybody out there with a Samsung 20 or 22 inch wide screen.
This thing is worse than trying to learn Elements.:D
Thank you. Storm

I am just stuck on this. Has anyone got the time to help me please. ? How do I manage to get 2 vertical screens up in Elements 4. Also should I have the Analog VGA type plug connected to the computer or the DVI Cable ?
How does this work. ?
Thank you. Storm

Hi Storm,

Don't know that screen by codes, but sounds like a wide-screen format.

Is Elements occupying the full screen size?

If so, have you tried clicking on the little thingys what are just below the minmize, maximize, X buttins on the upper right corner of Elements. The one in the middle (just under Maximize/Restore will tile the open images from Elements. Unfortunately, it only does one directly over the other, but you can click and drag on the edges to getr them more in the shape you want.

Hope that's it.

About the Analog/DVI cable.

If your monitor has both connectors - some do and you have compatible video card, the best (digital) is with the DVI cable.. I have 2 systems with LCD screens and one doesn't so I use the adapter on the back of the video card and for the other one I use DVI connections. Can't really say I notice a difference, but one of these days I am going to connect it up to my HDTV DVI connection and see what happens.

If I am understanding correctly.. I am not sure you can have 2 instances of Elements running at the same time.
I just tried with 5 and no go.

Hi Storm,
Glad to see you got your monitor (I think!!). Do you mean by two workspaces side by side have elements going and say a tutorial beside it? I am not exactly sure but maybe if you ask your question under Advanced or Pixel Hangout someone that uses a widescreen might be able to help. Title it something like - advice on new widescreen monitor. Just a suggestion - hope it helps.

John yes I know how to get multiple windows on top of each other. I was under the impression I would be able to get 2 windows side by side in Elements 4 Workspace. Gary says no you cannot . I know that it is possible to have Elements workspace & a Tutorial up side by side at the same time .Shari asked and Will said yes on my other thread " Monitors 4:3 or widescreen ? " Problem is I do not know how to do this properly either . I know rt click on the Task bar & click Tile Windows Vertically. I must be doing some stupid thing in the wrong order.
Hi Shari will PM you when this is sorted out. Hopefully some kind person will come to my rescue.
Thanks Storm

I don't think you can.

Elements won't respond to the task bar right click and tile command. Seems like it doesn't like sharing with other stuff.

What you could try is having Elements up and running full screen, then start your other window application - se Internet Explorer. Resize IE so that it takes up half the screen - probably right side is best. The you can at least see the two of them at the same time. The downside is as soon as you click on Elements the IE screen will be gone, but you can just get it back when you need.

Elements 5 works the same way. I am currently experimenting with CS3 trial download and mysteriously enough, it does behave "windows normal" for this, just not elements.

Hi Storm

I was talking about Elements running twice, side by side. Sorry ifmisunderstood.

If you just want two photos side by side, then just resize them in the Elements work area.

Gary I am sorry I got everybody in a muddle including myself.:)
I was under the impression I could work in Elements workspace & have a tutorial up side by side in the Workspace because I have a 22inch wide Monitor.
I realize now from this thread that it is not possible. Ok that part closed.
I do know that it is possible to get Elements workspace up on left hand side of the screen & have a Tutorial side by side on the right hand side. But I do not know how to do this & I would be grateful if someone could explain to me.
Also it is possible to get any 2 programs up same way. I cannot get the hang of how to do it. I know rt click on Taskbar & Tile windows vertically but there is some stupid thing I am doing wrong .
If you could explain kindergarten level to me I would be very grateful.
Thank you. Storm

Storm,

It can't be done with Elements - too stuborn I guess.

Try opening up any other 2 programs - email and Internet Exlporer for example. Do not minimize them. Now a right click on the Task Bar will work and you can select Tile Horizontally or Tile Certically.

Most apps will respect this and split the screen amongst all open apps - as long as they aren't minimized.

Now, as to the split screen, don't know. You may be able to achieve this depending on your Video card, etc. You could try Start, Settings, Display, Settings(?) or contact the folks you bought the monitor from.

Not sure if this is what you are trying to do, but.... I often copy/paste a tutorial into a word doc. I then open the word doc, and leave that on the left side of my monitor. The image that I'm working on in Elements is on the right side. I try to make the word doc as narrow as I can and still read it. It is usually partially obscured by the tools on the left side, but it is easy to click on it to bring it forward, and then click on the image to bring that forward. I have a 20" wide screen Dell monitor.

Hi back again ! Shari we went to Uclulet for 6 days it was beautiful !
Joan that is exactly what I was trying to do. I needed that R & R ,came back & my old brain is in gear again.
Shari its terrific 22in I can get Elements up on the left & Wendy's message or Tutorial on the right telling me what to do. :D My problem now is that I am unable to Calibrate it properly & the colours are really off.
David my son was visiting this evening & he said it does not seem to be working properly. He is very knowledgible about computers.
He has 5 networked at his house & one is hooked up with his LCD TV. I will have to get hold of Staples tomorrow & sort it out
I have a Samsung it has height adjustement which I like.
PM me Shari & let us how you are doing.

Hi Storm - I got the Viewsonic 22" and must admit I love it too. I am off to the Cancer Clinic today to see the Oncologist and if everything OK another chemo on Wednesday. So far so good. Some nausea and tired. Tomorrow I hope to have time to sit and play with the two screens on my monitor. Just having the extra space for palettes when working in CS2 makes it worthwhile to me!
Will PM next week - I have a busy one till next Tues - which is probably good - but tiring.
