This was taken standing out in front of Dad's trailer about 75 miles away from the launch site. The smaller image shows at plane just under the shuttle path. From out view, at one point it actually looked like they were on a collision course.

Rita, I just wish I had a tripod. I could have gotten more shots. It was so difficult to zoom and focus and not shake. I only got 7 shots and a few of them have power lines in them

it is exciting isn't it. i was priviledged to see one of the first space shuttles land - when they still landed in the california desert. it was all over in 90 seconds. But, just imagine, that shuttle had been into space. i am only sorry i didn't have a camera then.

Thanks everyone, it was pretty cool. Would have rather been closer. My Aunt and Uncle called around 9:30 and asked me to go let their dog out. They drove over to see it and were still stick in traffic. I didn't know they were going or I would have hitched a ride.

Seeing a landing would be cool Elizabeth and  to not having a camera at the time.

Thanks Joe, Robyn, Wendy and Joe. Dad was asking this morning if I could see the shuttle in the photos if I zoomed in and I told him. It was too far a way and at that distance there was a shake in the camera lens so it would be impossible with lens. He said "Oh, I should have gotten my tripod out for you.":D

Good shot Kim! I have a few from several years ago...we had a good spot at our old home to view it. And you could see it for quite a while too!

I'm so glad you got to see the shuttle take off, Kim. This was the first time we got to see it too. (4th try) How amazing! You were closer than we were, but it still was wonderful for us to see. :)

I just got back from fixing my Aunt's computer and saw her picks she took with her P&S. Man, the photos I could have gotten with my 100-300mm lens. They kept saying they don't know why they didn't ask me to go. They said they got there and saw people with their cameras and big lens and thought OOPS we forgot about Kim.:D:D

BTW, grammom, great shots.

Kim, bummer. We almost missed it. I just happen to look up at the clock at 7:25. Then I looked out the window because someone had parked at the end of the cul-de-sac. I went and woke up Dad and asked if the shuttle was launching and he he got up and we went outside to watch.

I sent my Aunt an e-mail to see if I can post a couple of her shots. Waiting to hear back.

Great shots! We were discussing the launch a couple of days ago and my daughter said it has sort of lost is luster. I said I would LOVE to be there to see one in person, but on TV it has been sort of ignored by TV stations for the last few years. I still think it's amazing.

Nancy, I know what you mean. At home it isn't on the network channels either but here it is on all of them.

As promised I got my Aunt's pictures of the shuttle launch. They were on a pier about 5 miles south of the launch. Not sure how well it shows in the pixentral link but if you look closely at the center photo you can see the shuttle.
