Hello;

I downloaded the Lightroom 30 days trial a few weeks ago and I have been using it for about that time and I'm still not sure why should I get it. Why do I want to spend $200.00 on a software that does almost the same thing or less than PSE or CS2/CS3?

Let's do the math.

CS3 (new user) $600.00 plus. or
PSE5 $99.00 and if you get the bundle $149.00
Lightroom $199.00

If I don't have any software at all may be is a good choice, but to be honest I dont get it :confused: Probably I don't understand because I'm not a profesional photographer.

Well there are a few weeks before the trial expires, probable miracle occurs.

Lightroom is a completely different program from CS or PSE. Essentially Lightroom is intended to for those that shoot RAW format images which need to be Processed rather than Edited. It can be used to Process PSD, TIF and JPEGS but it's real strength is for RAW. It also has far better Keywording and Organising capability.

Certainly in comparison to PSE it provides a much more efficient workflow for doing this and the RAW controls are more extensive.

All of this means I spend less time sitting in front of screen and get better results. Try Organising and Processing a batch of 500 RAW images with PSE and see how onerous a task this becomes. Not so with Lightroom.

To be honest I think if you've been using PSE previously, then the 30 day LR trial period isn't going to help much in the assessment. Lightroom is a different concept and not that easy to work with if you keep trying to use it the way you would PSE.

If you want to know more just ask. I've been using LR for many months and think its great for what I do. About the only thing I use PSE or CS for these days is to occasionally add a frame around images.
